I was in emunand. After booting Gateway, I made sure to go to the blank game icon, pressed select and was presented with the correct game selection screen, afterwhich I went to the eshop and performed the update.
that doesnt mean your in emunand, you can be in sysnand and still access the gateway menu and load roms.....did you ever actually pick "format emunand" from the gateway menu?

No, I didnt. I know that I went to Nintendo profile and booted Omega, without accessing the Gateway menu. So I thought that I was in emunand. I didnt know that you could load roms from sysnand.

that's a common mistake
loading the gateway exploit does not equal booting into emunand
you can use gateway without emunand, you have to actually set up an emunand partition on your sd card, tutorials for that should be included in the gateway manual or can be found all over the internet and also in about 2-3 new threads every day :-)

Xam , can you power your 3ds , wait about 1 minute and then press home? i think if you do you will see the home screen /poweroff ds menu

Ill try that when I get home tonight. Im pretty sure its bricked though, and Im going to send it off to get unbricked tomorrow.

guys just a heads up it seems this is a "thing" someone else had their console "semi-bricked" after running a update in sysnand while in gateway mode.....again its down to people not reading up properly, but regardless the worst that should happen is sysnand gets updated....i will send gateway a email to look into it

Why doesn't Gateway block updates if there is no emunand present.
yeah i said that in the email.....hopefully they will implement it, especially now if they could potentially be flashing a patched FW to someones console...i mean the blocked updating via a rom in sysnand so they can differentiate between them, it was likely just an oversight

I've never heard of this happening before, but I will be hesitant of updating my emuNAND now.
its a bug in 2.4 it will only happen if you try to update when you dont have emunand set up....as long as you set emunand up its fine, these people where destined to have a updated system nand anyway

you should have properly read the manual and followed the instructions
you cannot update your emuNAND, if you never set it up in the first place
and not having a 4.X backup is just plainly inexcusable
everyone should make a backup of his 4.X NAND, so he can safe his 3DS, if he screws up

It has always happened.
The only difference is that before v9, you would end up updating your actual system to the lastest firmware instead of bricking.
Either way, you will still need to reflash your NAND if you ever wanted to use Gateway again.

No, there is no backup, how should I save my Gateway.

I heard you can restore your system if you have a copy of firmware 4.5 or below emunand on your SD card that you haven't updated yet.
It is basically the same as having a NAND backup, but it will only be useful if it's version 4.5 or lower.

If your emunand is past 4.5, you can still unbrick, but you'll end up with an updated system that won't be able to use Gateway anymore.

yeah but see the problem here is that if he didnt have emunand set up before running the update he wouldnt even have a 4.x emunand partition to flash back (insert random facepalm image here)

moral of the story.....there is a reason everyone says make a nand backup first before you do absolutely anything else at all..

Right!
And you can also do that without a gateway. In case someone still don't know.
Just use any R4 card, install the exploit, run the Gateway menu and do a backup
