Brief info taken from Wikipedia:

"The Simple series are a number of series of budget-priced console games, published by Japanese company D3 Publisher and developed by a variety of companies, covering many systems. The price of the games in yen (not including tax) is included in the title of the series - for example Simple 2000 is about 2000¥."

Apparently, they started making games with themes like racing and billiards. But since it was created on a "low budget and short development time", they started to experiment and came up with original and good concepts. One of their titles in the older consoles got noticed internationally and its sequel got to be played on a Xbox 360. Meanwhile in the Simple DS series, only 8 got releases in EU.

One of these titles was The Kanshikikan. I found it while searching games similar to AA and the screenshot caught my interest (dat inventory menu), but the concept it was what got me good.
(I know there are games like this out there, but some are just lame)

In here, you "play as the newly-recruited forensics officer for the C(rime)S(cene)I(nvestigation) and solve cases by talking to people, collecting clues, use investigation equipments and etc." Gameplay appears to be similar to AA, but, as the description and screenshots shows, it offers more.

There's only a JP release and I can study Japanese if I want to, but I got no time. And I'm pretty bad at following a schedule.

The purpose of this thread was to let people know about this series since it's pretty interesting and hoping someone would get interested in translating some of the titles (And TK too). I already requested TK at this thread but I was just hoping. Hoping

And oh, search results for The Kanshikikan are small. No videos, a few screenshots and that's it.

((I'm sorry if this thread seems unprofessional and cluttered because this is the first time I made one and I have big problems involving commas and grammar but feel free to correct me. Apparently I spent hours editing this. Thanks for reading.))

The simple series, the puzzle series and all those other little "series" games are fairly well known by most moving in DS translation circles, and those that were not just an excuse to publish games translated to Japanese (Vol. 23 is Puzzle quest, and several others are disney tie in games) probably sit in the "if I had time" lists of many hackers and translators.

A couple of the puzzle series have recently been translated
http://gbatemp.net/threads/translation-puzzle-series-vol-12-akari.369146/
http://gbatemp.net/threads/translation-puzzle-series-vol-5-slitherlink.364971/

Likewise some of the simple series got some people pulling them apart, they had some interesting formats and leftovers. http://gbatemp.net/threads/japanese-programming-madness.320192/ does not have as much on them as I remember, that was probably another thread but it might work.

Right now I am lacking the time to commit to a project, and if I did it would probably be for Jigsaw World (there is a Chinese patch out there), actually doing some real work on the mahjong stuff from a while back ( http://gbatemp.net/threads/translation-of-a-nds-competitive-mahjong-title.321397/ ) or maybe some card games ( http://gbatemp.net/threads/card-games-on-the-ds-a-discussion-of-things.332152/ saw me look at a few, I did not find much that was really overlooked as far as Japanese only games went).

On the flip side if you are a translator in need of a script, a hacker in need of a translator, a new hacker in need of some help or someone looking for something to do in these circles then I can highly suggest the simple series, make a post and you will probably get some help if you have something specific you need.

Thanks. Kankishikan 1 and 2 look like it'd be fun, but... whew.

It's supposedly text-intensive, though... you'd need CSI fans who'd be willing to translate that sort of jargon.

I think there's something similar to the premise called 'Crime Scene', that might be worth a look?

Actually, I already have it.

I really don't mind the text (read: loves stories like heck a lot and Ghost Trick) and the gameplay and features is what made me made an account in here wait what (equipments, a whole bunch of things to do and again, dat inventory menu looks like AA) but the translator are going to mind it so, it's okay I'm a patient person (aka I have zero experience in *insert anything related to hacking skills here*)

And, there are jargons there? How did you know? Oh the horror of Japanese jargons

I don't for sure, but have you -seen- any Law and Order show?

Sometimes you've got to be sure you have the right terms for police investigations. I'd really say if you want it done, you'd probably have to start by putting up translations as you can, since I suspect that's going to be the hardest part of a game like this, rather than the hacking.

Alternatively, be lazy, go play something like Jake Hunter instead? (A game that I feel probably should get more love than it has. Be sure you get Memories of the Past, though... the Jake Hunter Chronicles isn't worth it since it's just a few cases that's duplicated in Memories.)

I heard that there is this one GBA version that sucks and the translation is bad, too. But the DS version was an improvement.

Apparently, I don't know nor seen any Law and Order show. But I have a feeling I'm going to get confused by those jargons if I were to translate it.

Yeah... I think if you wanted a translation project to try, doing the rest of the Jake Hunter stuff that's unreleased may be better. Just adapt what you see from the already-localized games, and it'd be a sight bit easier to code, is my guess.

Wandering back to Simple games, though- the one you want from that series strikes me as one of the hardest to translate from that series. Good luck with that, though, I'd love to see that one myself.

Apparently I have zero experience in both areas.

Same here. I mean who can't resist ogling at dat inventory menu? But anything involving numbers and directions etc, are hard.

Are you using an emulator? Which?
And by the way do you know Japanese? O^O Or perhaps you just fumble around?

No, I don't know Japanese... I wish... but Aj:AA is in English, you know that, right?
I use DeSmuMe for Windows and Mac, and I use DraStic DS for Android, and I use nds4ios for IOS. Drastic is better than desmume, drastically so. (see what I did there?)

Lol, you won't get a warning for discussing something slightly off-topic in your own thread. Don't worry.
I play on a lot of platforms, sometimes android, yeah.

Ah. Well, thank you for answering and for those links! ^^ And I hope some would be translated, not that it's needed.
