That reflects pretty well what Marionumber1 said on post 32, there isn't that much and that he also said I may as well update, hell, maybe Mario Kart 8 online has gotten more stable, as I recall seeing something like that on a game site, something about online stability for that game I believe. Might as well update.

Yeah, it's kinda harsh but that's the best option so far.
The kernel-exploit is the desired one, and until then we can't do more but to keep track on any progress so far.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying is it doesn't really matter if you do update because for there to be good homebrew it needs to be accessible (IE useable on the latest version and/or perisistent) anyways for the developers to develop.
Also, this would be a good clickbait article title :P

Um, it was never my intent for it to be click-bait, I had a genuine concern and needed validation and clarification on the true status of what was going on and what I should do. Nothing more. It's not everyday I make threads, really, so forgive me for making it sound like one, I assure you. Regardless, the good stuff isn't really out yet, as a kernel exploit will be needed to have complete access to the hardware, and those kinds of exploits will take quite some time for sure. The fact Marionumber1, a Wii U homebrew developer assured me there was no point in waiting, also adds a lot to the situation and reassurance that it won't hurt.

You're saying that emulators on Wii were weaklings yet you want a Wii U hack so bad for the same emulators even though you probably own a PC or some device which is way more powerful for doing exactly that.
Emulators are piracy just like backup loaders so both shouldn't be made according to the team. If you have enough money to buy every game you want why don't you have enough to buy 2 Wii Us?

Not that anyone would mind having a backup loader instead of none. People forget that loading times are shorter and the console operates more silently by using one. Also, the disk drive is spared from overuse. The only downside is the possibility of stealing money from the game company... but you can already do that by buying used games only. They'll see no cent from you, only the original buyer gets some of his money back from you that he originally spent on the new game.

Anyway, since your reasons are therefore kinda obsolete you should just update and enjoy the benefits. On top of that, another exploit will come very likely.

I didn't come here for a lecture, but yes, another exploit will invariably come out at one point or another. I was mostly referring to the N64 and PSX emulators on the Wii; there is not enough raw power to run many of the games full speed and without major glitches, so Nintendo only had 21 games on the N64 catalog, hence why I wanted to wait. I don't care about games that are no longer being produced or are readily available. I can't get a second console because I barely started a new job and was unemployed for some time, so I don't exactly have 250 dollars laying around the house for me to squander on a refurb Wii U console. What I do with emulators and what I expect to use on the Wii U is my business. If I want to wait for emulators, that's my business as well. I didn't want to miss out in the homebrew scene, that's the gist of it anyways. :P

Yeah, after reading through this thread I'm updating too.

What the deuce does that mean? You didn't have to read it you know. I was trying to make a genuine thread about the current situation, what to do, asking for suggestions and other feedback, was I wrong in doing so? Is asking the opinions of the community and for their suggestions criminal? You're more than welcome to not read my threads if you find them so irksome ;)

Hey, there was no sarcasm or anything In what I just said, I was just in the same situation trying to decide whether to update or wait for homebrew, I went for the update so that I can play my free digital version of windwaker that I got with MK8.

Fair enough :P Sorry, just I wasn't entirely sure either, hence the creation of this thread ;) Eventually, there will be an exploit, there hasn't been an unhackable system so far. Had no intention to be so terse with you.

I haven`t read the whole topic, hell I didn`t even read the whole wall of text, that the first post provided.... but I think I get the gist purely by the topic name
cudos to the OT for a topic name that already explains his gigantic wall of text

wanna skip MY wall of text? go to last part

only thing I want to say is pretty simple - the web browser is going to be exploitable by various entry points for a very long time as I don`t see ninty putting resources into this matter at all for now - really, at all
the current state of "homebrew, exploits or hacks" isn`t really much develeoped - at all,
but adamantally staying on system software version X won`t nesessarily be THE solution for the future
and let`s be honest, when smash gets released, who is gonna be willing to stay on version X just to be able to wait another XX months for the magical usb loader pfffffff
when the game you wanna play needs an update to play, honestly, do it, you can call me the bad guy later for advising to update, but honestly, you gotta make the decision yourself
play the game you wanna play, download the DLC you wanna play or wait for something, whatever it is gonna be.
In the end it is your choice

aaaand yes, I am aware of the irony of me saying, I don`t want to read walls of text and yet produce just the same.... well, having read my shit, you probably feel stupid now? well, guess what, gotcha. good night

short version: you wanna play and need to update for the game? hell do it, if you really need to stay on a version just to be a pirate, then have fun with it. good night

I know, I was implying that it would be if it were not in this section of this forum. I wasn't accusing you of anything.
EDIT: I actually think this thread was well needed TBH

My PC is good but it takes way too long to get set up, and there's the added benefit of the gamepad (which thus better enables a DS emulator, of which my laptop can't even run Phantom Hourglass, for example, at a reasonable speed, plus is just easier in general, it's the same argument of play Wii games using the gamepad - the ease of access).

Thank you!
I was looking for that word to explain myself why I prefer playing on a console and not a PC.

that`s debatable, my pc just takes seconds to load due to its OS being installed on an SSD and DS or WII games just run perfectly and even look better on the PC then on the original console / Dolphin for Wii games with an overclocked 4x5Ghz CPU, 8Gig Ram and a 4Gig GDDR5 RAM GraphCard - no I am not rich, I enjoy the priviledge of using this rig for my work and even if you use a WiiMote on the PC, the feeling is just not the same, I still prefer playing it on the TV in a living-room-atmosphere-like-setting
so while I don`t agree with your arguments, I still have to agree to the point, that playing games on consoles is - for me - more enjoyable then on a pc and hence I of course prefer an emulator for older consoles to be run on a console in my living room to a pc standing in my office :-)

Yup, same here. SSD harddrives are so damn good...

Going to hit up Best Buy and get a LAN adapter; my days of shoddy wireless on there are over! :D And like what was said, I'll update, and eventually, there will be a more full-fledged hack :D

I use WLAN for online gaming on Wii U and it sucks so bad with disconnects and lag. Maybe I should go back to LAN. On Wii however my wireless connections are fairly stable :/

Problem is, don't want to wait to ship a Nintendo one and third party adapters will work, but apparently might have MAC issues.

why SHIP a nintendo one? don`t tell me, you don`t got those in stores in the USA? o.O we got plenty of those in Germany and as far as I know, they don`t really get bought so much, that they should be out of shelf all the time anywhere at all o____o
