Hacking Hey need emunand update help, STAT!

As you probably know gateway 2.3 beta is in development and its only a matter of time before its official release.

I have some questions if anyone would like to take a shot at answering them be my guest.

1. Lets say I'm in the emunand version 8.1.. What can I and can not do? Example am I still able to play my retail physical chartiage games?
2. I getting into emunand mode requires a format of the 3ds sd card. I know it is possible to backup the sd card and then store the files back onto it once in emunand mode. My question is how is this possible? Please explain thoroughly on a how to on backing up and restoring the sd card... (I don't mean the gateway micro sd I mean the big 3ds sd card)
3. Im going to go over what I think is correct when getting 8.1 emunand, please tell me if I'm correct..

Ok so I back up the sd card (which ill learn to do when someone answers questions 2) once done I goto gateway settings and select format emunand. After format is complete (keep in mind I will be on gateway 2.3) I goto settings upon recognition that it says GW3DS V 4.5 I then proceed to update it to latest version which is 8.1 once update is complete I put the old sd card files back on... and tada version 8.1 emunand! This is how I currently believe is the proper what to update the emunand.

no you don't have to format emunand..just go to your EMUNAND settings make sure it says GW3D x.xx.xx and then update simple as that..DO NOT update under REAL nand

I currently do not have an emunand on my 3ds wouldn't it require a 3ds format?

Updating emunand on version 2.3 is it safe?


Update on 2.2 then. After that put 2.3 to be able to run it.

just do what this guy does. at 11:02 i updated emunand with 2.2 yesterday, and it should work now with 2.3 (have´t tried yet)

Ive literally done this about an hour ago, I had no emuNAND either, It makes no difference if you do it on 2.2 or 2.3, the only difference is 2.3 is in beta so there maybe some bugs in there.

When you're about to press nintendo ds profile, hold the L button and boot to the gateway menu. Go to format emuNAND (make sure everything on your big SD card is backed up if there is anything you want on there.) Follow the instructions. Once it says It's complete it will reboot the 3ds and create the emuNAND partition. Head into system settings and if it says GW3D .. then you can proceed to update, if it doesn't boot back into gateway mode the way you usually do and this time it will say GW3D ... then you can update to GW3D8.1 ... that's all there is to it.

One more thing I replaced the launcher.dat with the new 2.3 and went into gateway settings and it still says v2.2 omega

If it says that then it's not the correct launcher, double check before you carry on. Although you can create emuNAND in 2.2 no problem, the new games that work (tomodachi life nintendo club pocket football etc) won't work unless on 2.3 so yeah check it's the right launcher.dat

K it was my bad, got it on 2.3B... BTW if I restart my 3ds does that exit the emunand?

yes, you ALWAYS have to boot into gateway mode if you turn off the console.

Updating EmuNAND is terribly easy. You just make sure it says GW-X.X in your settings before updating. If you're extremely paranoid you might as well delete your internet connection settings in real NAND and keep them in EmuNAND, move stuff around so that both are different, etc. Really, I'm just parroting everything that's been told here a lot of times.
It's pretty hard to screw up an EmuNAND update, and after each release it is a safer procedure.
No one has reported errors during the update procedure in 2.3b (yet), so you might as well update from there directly since you're willing to take the risk.

Hi, I have a similar doubt.

I have gateway 3ds and untill now I played a lot of games without emunand.

Now I want update my emunand, or in my case create one.

Take out your big SD card, put it into your computer, move all save files to your PC.

Put the Big SD card back into your 3DS. Format emuNAND.
Once complete, put your big SD card back in the PC, move your save files back to the big SD card and into your 3DS. That's all there is to it.
