Hacking Can i still play DS flashcarts after installing Gateway?

You can, tho you have to run the exploit again if you want to use Gateway

It's as Yepi69 says, but I'll clarify a bit.
Gateway works thanks to a certain exploit in the DS profile on the 3DS. You need to install a hack to make use of this exploit and boot up Gateway.
Any time you start up DS mode (by playing a DS game or using a DS flashcard), the hack will be removed and need to be reinstalled.

that does happen with the gateway DS MODE (blue) card? if you play a ds rom using the gateway card, will you need to re-apply the patch?

when installed Gateway and started Gateway 3DS mode,
if you want to use other flashcarts, you need to reboot your 3DS to run r4i or DTwo or other flashcarts,
or 3DS console can't read the flashcarts

Just go into "System Settings" and then leave it to get out of Gateway mode, no need to power cycle.

No, DS mode flashcard will boot from gateway mode.
However, this resets the exploit and kicks you out of gateway mode.
So you have to run the exploit again if you want to go BACK into gateway mode.

there was only ever bricked consoles on b2, and this was due to a bug in the diagnostics test in the gateway menu on b2 which has since been fixed

using a DS flashcard will be absolutly fine.....but just to clarify DS mode flashcards actually wont work in gateway mode they have to be played in sysnand
