Hi,

I got a Nintendo Wii that I installed a Wiikey in 2007. Since then I have only done a software(complicated) update to be able to run games from USB HD.

Im now thinking of starting to use this Wii again and the question is how I bring new life to it. What I want is to update it so it can run new games and also install software that makes it easy to play games from USB HD.

I remember that when doing the software update long ago something whent wrong and some data was over written(cIOS38). Pleas look here for full information : http://gbatemp.net/threads/cios-problems.191700/ It would be great if this could be fixed as well. Note that after this update I hade no problem with errors(that I know about).

Im not at home now, but I will check. I remember to update it to run New Super Mario so it should be a old one, probably Wii System Menu 4.2E.

But the important part is that I want to make it easy to start games from USB HD, my 5 year old will play on this unit. Today(with NeoGammaR7) its alot of steps just to get new super mario running. The best would be if they was accessable direcly from the Wii menu but I supose that this is not possible?

Dont update the wii.

Get cfg usb loader

Get loadstructor on your pc

Format your harddrive to wbfs format with wii backup manager

Put in your drive into the wii

Launch cfg usb loader

Put in your new super mario disc

Press install

Wait for it to finish

Go back to pc and launch loadstructor select use cfg usb loader

Press add wbfs and select your wbfs drive

Select new super mario bros wii

Press RUN

After the wad has been made install with your favorite wad manager

After that the game will be on the wii menu and you can launch it any time just make sure the usb drive is inserted

Please lookout for other tutorials to for loadstructor as i can be wrong sometimes

Do NOT format to WBFS, use NTFS instead. I use NTFS just fine without any issues for all my Wii games on 4.1U and the latest CFGLoader. WBFS format just makes it more difficult to add more games using a PC later on. Shrinking the games from ISO to just the game partitions as a single .wbfs file on an NTFS formatted harddrive is a much better option.

I already have the backup files(ISO format), so no need to do the backup again I hope? Is this the correct way to do it or is it to old :

I have 1 SD card and 1 USB drive hooked up to the Wii right now and im not really sure why? The games is located on one of them but why are there 2 storage units?

The storage that the current ISO files/games is loaded on are WBFS format and this works for all but Mario Kart that freezes after a while?

Is it possible to also run gamecube games now? And place them on the Wii menu as well?

Is there any thing out of the ordinary? Something that needs to be fixed?
