This game is SO hard to get 3 stars on the lightning cup normally, let alone on mirror mode but i did it 1st time! Rainbow road being one lap is a frigging nightmare, 1-2 item hits and game over for 3 stars. Luckily i managed to get some good luck on it

Do stars even appear online? I got one star on all cups and unlocked the gold kart (and Luigi decided to call the game Luigi kart 8 haha)but my star ranking doesn't seem to appear online and I never see anyone else with a star ranking (just white or gold wheels).

What is the point of going for 3 star if it is not for online bragging rights?

I've been finding all Cups on 100cc to be pretty easy to finish in first place, but then on 150cc the opponents make too much use of the items towards the one in first place.

O' course playing MK8 is still at work 'cause I've yet to receive my copy which Zavvi hasn't yet dispatched it. :-/ Oh well I'll just be a little more patient.

online is starting to become a joke. searching for players 1-2 minutes puts me in spectate...race hasn't even started QUIT. again 1-2 minutes, spectate, race not started...RAGE QUIT!!!!!! 3rd time...i get the alone room bug SMASH THE BUTTON QUIT!!!!!!! it's taking me up to damn 10 minutes just to get into a fucking game now!!

It may help if you don't actually leave matches and instead wait for them to finish the race. It'll probably be faster than quitting and rejoining 5 times in a row. Just grab a drink while the race is going on or some shit.

Got the game yesterday and 3 star'd the 50CC cups. Haven't encountered a course I don't like, which is surprising. The inability to stack bananas in first is a bit frustrating, especially when you're in first place. Also, falling off the course isn't as punishing as it use to be, which has its pros and cons.

Now for the online, this is just sad. It's working now, but an hour ago every few races I'd get the 103-999 error. It's good for now, though.

Nintendo ID is the same, so add me if you want to race.

Here's an idea: wait for 2 minutes for the race to end.

Just wondering if any of you guys have a course you dont like? The post at #266 got me curious about it because originally i didnt paticularly hate any. The more i play against harder oppenents, some levels start to show patterns of anoyance for recovering when hit by items. In order of anoyance, mine would be:

1 - Rainbow Road (N64) I think the decision to make this one lap not only ruined what was one a great level, but also made it the most irratating level in the game for trying to win. If you get hit by a couple of items then you can kiss 1st place goodbye, the level looks pretty but the actual fun of it is gone, there is barely any place to really get a decent advantage or catch up. The ultimate luck based level with items too, you get a coin whilst in 1st place and you're canon fodder since there is no turns or obstacles to avoid red shells. Stupid stupid decision to make it one lap.

2 - Dolphin shoals. Originally i liked this level but the more i play it, the more i hate it. It is extremely hard to stay in 1st on this level. It has alot of shortcuts that benefit players with boosts and i also think it is one of the hardest levels to recover from an item hit.

3 - Grumble volcano. Too many turns that dont generate enough drift to get a big boost. It also has certain areas of the map that are extremely difficult to recover from item hits. Its a hard map to race on normally with the fire and enemies but combined with the other stuff, it is one of the hardest levels in the game.

4 - Electrodome. This level is basically item hell. most of the areas have walls which makes green shells deadly. It has a ton of shortcuts and because of the twisty nature of the level, banana's are hard to spot untill it is too late. I like the level normally but god, this has to the one level that i get hit by items the most.

I still hate the Rainbow track from Mario Kart Wii but overall it's just about timing the drift and speed then afterwards you've nailed it without falling off.

From what I played of it (which is not a lot) I hate Toads Turnpike and that city level with the tram the most.

Yosh! Zavvi has confirmed that my Mario Kart 8 copy has been dispatched!

Whenever I look at the cover of Mario Kart 8 I sorta read it as "Mario Kart: Infinity" which would've been a better title than "Mario Kart 8"

Came home and there it was!

It certainly isn't the best Mario Kart but very addictive and fun nonetheless.

By the way, if there's no one interested in swapping Rayman Legends for my Mario Kart 8 code then I'll put it up for auction on eBay.

I've been playing MK8 online with Rosalina on a bike and it's been quite lovely, although I hate getting hit by items because I go from 1st place to 7th place. This game relies on luck more so than skill.
