Never liked how they conduct their business, but I "blame" EA competition for this.

........... or maybe steam devs dont even know that a store called Origin exists...................

This must be to gain some hype for Sniper Elite III, due out at the end of the month.
Look out for an official GBAtemp review in the next few weeks!
It does indeed seem to be that way as they've implemented an ad for Sniper Elite III that shows when the game starts up (which is slightly annoying considering I've actually paid for the game), but nonetheless it seems like a pretty nice way to get attention.

It's free, why ask when you can just download it.
There are hundreds of free games out there. Should we download and play them all as well, rather than asking about it?

(and no, "it wasn't free before" isn't a good answer either. There are plenty of those games as well...even if you only count legitimate abandonware)

Gamefan: it got 66 on metacritic. For anything else...it's world war 2 and it has sniper rifles. I ended up adding it to my steam accounts on account of it having multiplayer (you never know), but I probably never come around to installing it. This is one of those games in case I want to play with someone who doesn't want to play with me because I'm too good at gaming. This sort of campfest (which I assume it is) is a genre I often (or ever) play, so it could at least even up the skill level...

The competition begins with Steam, and Origin lol. Now I'm wondering if Steam going to hit hard with big free games like Origin?

Yeeeeah no. Steam is already the biggest digital distribution platform for PC out there, Origin will never come even close to it in a "competition" sense. Steam has been giving free games out for years now, as well, like Left4Dead 2 and Red Orchestra 2 and such, this isn't anything new.

Not to mention most people are already really butthurt at EA/Origin for "X Retarded Reason Here".

A bit new to steam, once I download it, and after 24 hours, will I still be able to play the game free?

As long as you get it added to your library, it's yours to keep forever.

Just click "Download" and you don't even have to install, it'll just get added to your library.

the game is cool and not so bad, however there is a frustration... the AI
the AI is really awful and frustrating...
i hate when there is only one guy left on the area, he sees me, he doesn't even need to yell. a bunch of guys from the next area just spawn and they are everywhere

Sounds like you agree with this guy's review of the game. ;)

This is a pretty good game. Played it on a 360 the first time, since my friend had a demo of it, and really enjoyed the demo. I love sniping in shooters, and this game is perfect for that.

I remember that in a certain level where you need to climb a church, I managed to kill 4 enemies at once. I aimed at a head, but thanks to the wind the bullet went to the helmet, ricochet off the helmet to a other enemy's neck, went through to the third enemy, hit a grenade on his belt, exploded, killing the first enemy, the enemy with the grenade, and a enemy who walked to that place. Good stuff.
The X-Ray stuff is pretty cool too, especially when organs are hit.

Can't wait to play this in multiplayer, since a couple of my friends also got this.

I want to buy Sniper Elite 3, but might as well wait until I can 'try it out for free'.

Gee, I can't believe I didn't know this. I thought it was only playable within the hours it was free. So many games I missed
