Yes it was a legit thing(unfortunatly), some random asshole came on here proclaiming to have the means to decap a 3DS and provide the inner workings to doners and developers alike. When the funding reached its $2000 limit they asked for $500 more since there was "unforseen fees". Someone donated the $500 and the kickstarters were never heard from again.Wait, was that a real thing?
I thought you invented it to ridiculize Leo...
Why does this shit cost so much anyhow? Isn't it just soaking a chip in nitric acid and looking at it under a microscope? Seems like something I could do at school.Yes it was a legit thing(unfortunatly), some random asshole came on here proclaiming to have the means to decap a 3DS and provide the inner workings to doners and developers alike. A lot of reputable people from this site backed them up too, people really put a lot of faith into some group that spawned out of nowhere.

The kickstarters claim to have high quality telescopes at a university somewhere that could take photos of each chip layer of the 3DS and each snapshot is very costly. I didn't run the kickstater but thats why they claimed to have needed so much. Obviously seeing that now it was just bullshit. Why does this shit cost so much anyhow? Maybe finding the bootrom via decapping can indirectly lead to the AES keys? I dunno.
Anyway, with a little patience GBAtemp could have saved $2300 by asking these guys to do it for free (which they are currently doing)

symetric just means you can use the same key to both encrypt and decrypt.. but i digressEven with the bootrom, you cannot get the AES key.
However, studying the 3DS' SoC can lead to the discovery of a kernel level exploit which is all we need.
To put it simple, we do not need the AES key, we just need kernel level access to the 3DS' firmware so we can use the console's AES engine chip to sing/unsign whatever we want.
It is also worth noting that since AES is a symetric encryptation algorithm, anyone with a hacked 3DS CAN sign files for you and they will work fine on your console.
All the 3DS consoles share the same AES Key.

I dont understand what you're getting at.. assuming every 3DS had a unique key, it'd still be able to encrypt/decrypt or sign the game.. just like the keyYSymetric means there's only one key for both encrypting and decrypting.
The basic principle of encryptation is that each possible output should only be reachable by one input-key pair.
If each 3DS has its own AES key, then what key do you sign the games with?
It's pure logic.

Great news. Not that far away. Personally I've just been loving the Wondercard Generator code. Got lots of new HA Pokes that I wanted.Well for those who don't have a Diance, or just want a legit one... July 19 is the distribution date so we can hope Datel will re-release the codes around that time.
We live in a world where we demand results and want one minute burritos turned into 30 second burritos, ever heard of the saying "a fool and his money are soon parted", people these days want it now even if it comes at a price.Maybe finding the bootrom via decapping can indirectly lead to the AES keys? That was a good read btw.
Meh, I could care less what people think of me online. I just say it how it is and yes I literally had a friend that was so impatient he wondered why they havent invented 30 second burritos.I have to admit, I thought you were an asshole when I first read this thread but, now that I've seen such subjects as Leo or leerpsp, you're my idol.
Great burrito analogy!

@Datel: Please, my lovely Datel, may you pretty please add an IV modifying code? It does not need to be perfect 6IV code but something like 5IV, even if random, would be very much appreciated <333 xoxo.
