Hey everybody. I'm still new to this whole WiiHack thing, and I'm even more new to this site. With this in mind, please spare me some patience if my posts are somewhat aggravating. :shy:

I'm having some trouble with my hacked Wii unfortunately:
1.) I use a USB drive to transport files from my computer to the Wii. However I absentmindedly deleted some apparently important files from that USB, which has eliminated the drive's compatibility with the Wii (I'm just guessing here). Now when I plug this USB into my Wii the files aren't detected. Argh. Would somebody be able to link me to a place where I can redownload these important files? They were called "load" or "DS.store" or something.
2.) I've recently downloaded the program WIT to my computer...with unsatisfactory results. The program, after installation, flashes for a brief second before closing itself, despite how many times it is re-installed, closed, opened, etc. Does anybody know what's wrong in this instance?

I would appreciate any help that is offered. Not to invoke a bawww nor sympathy, but as a student I rely on free entertainment as one of my few affordable means of comfort, lol. These questions were also posted on a separate forum, but they have not been answered yet. I'm hoping to receive more attention in the general forum here. THANK YOU! :grog:

WIT is a command line tool. You have to run that from a command prompt/terminal depending on what platform you're on. There might be a GUI for it. I don't know what os it would be compatible with.

Ds.store is a Mac generated file if I'm not mistaken. The Wii doesn't use that or anything called "load". There must be something else that got messed up.

Could I bother you with one more question?

If you answered yes, take a look at this picture. After installing WIT once again Windows notified me of an incorrect installation. Huh...

AFAIK, WIT doesn't need to be installed. You just run it from a command line interface. Search Google for instructions on how to run a command line interface on your operating system. That said, WIT is not exactly noob friendly. What is it you want to do? There are probably better tools for beginners to accomplish the task.

There are better tools for noobs like me!? I hope you're right, because since I've been able to access WIT from the command prompt I've been feeling like I'm waaaay over my head, haha. I want to convert an ISO file to a WBFS file so that I can load said file on to my Wii. This file is a game.

Try this one:

Very easy to use, and it will do what you want.

FWIW if you want to give WIT a go, in your WIT folder hold <SHIFT> and right click an empty white space. Click "Open command window here" in your context menu, and then type wit.exe or whatever the main executable for it is. That might give you some usage instructions.

the windows-install thing probably sets it as an environment variable, so from a command prompt anywhere you can just type "wit" without having to navigate to your WIT folder. This is how the Android Developer Toolkit works, if installed you can just type "fastboot" and "adb" in a command prompt to access those features.

Granted, everything I just said is speculation. I've never so much as even downloaded WIT because I've never had a use for it. Go with what Dust2dust said, use Wii Backup Manager. It's stupid easy.

Though it may sound rude, my intention with this isn't meant to offend, but to instead be taken quite literally - If you can't figure out how to use WIT, you probably don't have much of a need to use it in the first place. What I mean is that yes, you can do some pretty technical stuff with it, but for the most part you'd be able to accomplish every single thing the typical user needs while using Wii Backup Manager - that goes for myself as well.

Everything that was advised to me was followed and went well...but now I have another problem. Can I say "arrrrgh?"

If you don't mind, I would appreciate some help with this extended issue. I'm sorry for the noob overload here.

It seems that, after everything was said and done, my Wii doesn't recognize the files on my USB. My USB Loader channel initially regarded the USB as being empty, showing that there were no games at all, but then it changed drastically. Now when I try to load my USB files on the same channel a strange message comes into view, claiming that I need to format or select a partition (this is pretty weird, being that I already have formatted the USB via my computer to FAT). However, when I try to format the only selectable partition the entire screen turns black, emanates a horrific buzzing noise, and displays a seemingly redundant list of error codes. What in God's name is this?! All I wanted was to play a game! Lol...

A few questions are in orders...
How did you hack your Wii? What is your USB Loader app? What cIOS are you using? (This one might be a little too technical, considering you're just starting). Give us as many details as possible, even beyond these questions, and it will help to find solutions.

Okay, I'll splurge on anything that I can find.
1.) I wasn't solely responsible for the hacking; my ex pompously provided me with the "favour." Since it was hacked I've had friends do the same with their Wiis, leading me to believe that this "superb favour" wasn't as complicated as the ex claimed it was. Or so I thought!
2.) By "app" I'm assuming that you mean what is installed on the Wii currently. The loader is captioned "USB LoaderGX." It's called the same thing on The Homebrew Channel. I can't find any other details regarding it's type (I was wondering if I needed to re-install another, newer version, and if doing so might solve the issue at hand).
3.) From what I can tell, the cIOS I have on my Wii is "cIOS 222, v5." This information was gathered from the Homebrew channel.
4.) The Wii was bought with the console's initial release. It's comparatively old to other current consoles.
5.) I used to be able to access games through the USB Loader via USB. This problem came to be when I tried fiddling around with the USB drive, deleting files and such from it's folders. This lead me to believe that I may have deleted one of the essential files from the USB by mistake.

Thank you SO much, I didn't expect to be received so genially on this forum. Please let me know if there's anything else you need on my end. :D

Ok, I see... considering that your Wii was hacked by a third person, and you don't know how it was done, and also considering that you have a first generation Wii, on which you can, more than likely, install bootmii as boot 2, I would suggest that you rehack it yourself. It's very easy to do, not to worry. Just check the very first sticky on the Wii - Hacking section of this forum, the ModMii sticky. Install ModMii (on your PC). Run it and tell it your Wii is a virgin, (even though it isn't) and what System menu your Wii is. Follow instructions carefully and rehack your console with all the latest hacks and cIOS. Don't forget to install bootmii as boot 2 at the beginning, and make a Nand Dump. The advantage for you is that you'll be able to have a Nand backup that you can reflash via bootmii, if something goes wrong. You'll need a SD card, which you probably already have. I suggest emptying or formatting it first so any previous files don't conflict with the ModMii downloaded files (you'll figure it out as you get there) As a USB Loader, I've always used CFG myself, and I think this is the recommanded USB Loader app from ModMii as well. Try it. The whole process should take you no more than an hour and a half, considering you're just starting. And you'll learn a little more on how the hacking part works. Knowledge is power.

Beautiful. It's about time that I take control of that Wii anyways. Thank you kindly, valiant Sirs! I will never forget your noble efforts here. :grog:

Hey again fellas, I'm back to report an issue. The ModMii download has some errors to it. Is this something everyone should be concerned about? Also, should the missing and invalid files be located on the internet? Thanks again.

It happens. And they may indeed be findable on the internet. Once you found the files, you just put them in the ModMii temporary folder, and it will recognize them, assuming they are the expected versions. Which are the files?

Thank you for your continued support. Luckily only one of the files are missing from my attempted download today: "FAT32 GUI Formatter." Let the search begin!
