Joined Sunday, asking this sort of question.... we do attract them here it seems.

Anyway 6 months.... other than don't please say you have at least known each other/moved in similar social circles for years. I would make an example along the lines of "at 6 months I would not know the names of their siblings if they were an only child" but I am a noted (in my own mind at least) antisocial bastard so that might not be ideal. Beyond that I am not sure what purpose marriage serves (there are some minor accounting things which are largely irrelevant and in most countries only going to get more so) so I am definitely out.

Don't.

I mean, six months is an awful short amount of time to decide you want to spend the rest of your life with a person (especially when you're still 22). It's not a lot of time to make such a huge commitment, and if you go wrong, it's a costly mistake. Why not give it a little more time? As long as you're still together, there's no need to rush the ceremonies.

Just keep that in mind; the last thing you want is an indecent proposal.

Great idea to propose on Christmas ... just..... not this year.

like FAST said, I hope you've known each other for a lot longer before dating. 6 months is really short compared to the rest of your life.

I'm 26, been married for almost 5 years now and I can say I got lucky. I got married too young, but I really caught a great gal and the transition from "OMG LOVE" to "family member" has gone great.

Because there WILL be a transition like this. Expect it.

Having been married for 7.5 years myself, truer words have never been spoken here. It's a rough transistion that first year, no matter how much you love a person. Some people just don't survive it.

So like everybody else says, I would wait and really get to know this girl. There's no big rush to get married. As Judge Judy once said, "You could be with Atilla the Hun for 6 months". It's the time after the puppydog stage and the honeymoon phase that really matters, and how you deal with and work at it.

Now, all that being said, if/when you do propose to somebody, make it personal and special. I took my now wife to the rocks on the lakeshore where we had our first kiss and read her a poem I wrote about her that ended with "Will you marry me?" and then did the one knee thing with the ring. Make it come from the heart and really have some personal significance.

Hm, you guys are right. The thing is, we both love each other so much and her dad is pushing me into proposing since he really thinks I'm suitable for his daughter. I'm currently trying to get admitted into a university since I moved here from Arkansas, so I think I am going a bit to fast. I should focus on my education and get me set for the new country I am in and spend time with my girlfriend and my family as life passes, and I should wait a few months. Thank you guys!!!

My older sister and her husband were together for like close to 10 years before they got married. And all that did was basically prove that they can put up with each other's bullshit.

If her dad is pushing you, then just simply say "I would like to get my life and career settled down first, that way I can take care of her".

Makes me wish we were living back in the old days. Getting a life sorted out meant just being able to cut firewood and hunt, and work the fields >=(

I do not know about you but antibiotics FTW.

As for the "thinks I am good" bit, assuming you are not dealing with someone that is rather old fashioned that usually translates as "calming influence". This can mean many things though.

For real??? Not only is six months a damn short amount of time, but having her dad pressuring you into proposing is a sure sign to GTFO ASAP. This is crazy town.

I have a sweater that I bought 6 months ago. I sometimes Im still asking myself: why I even bother to buy it?
Of course I wish you best of luck but, man, 6 months is not enough. Critically. Its like trying to launch a pokeball to capture undamaged Onyx. Make her dad try to do it.

Get each of your family members to propose to one of her family members!

e.g. your dad proposes to her mom
her mom proposes to your dad
etc

until finally you propose to her

it will blow her mind!
