I'm planning to buy a 3ds xl prettty soon, and with it a gateway 3ds. Though I just have a question regarding the gateway 3ds. Do the updates correspond to the hardware or the software. So if I get the gateway chip, which only supports one backup at a time, will a software update be capable of changing this limit, or will gateway just release a new hardware with slight modifications? I don't want to spend more money than I have to :P

It's possible in software.

Why would you think anyone here knows if there's going to be a hardware revision...?
Nobody here is on the "Gateway team".

Of course I know that, but I kind of wanted reassurance. I'm probly going to buy the gateway anyways, but having someone affirm my thoughts just makes the whole purchase more comfortable.

Thanks man, I didn't want to worry about the possibility :D
That doesn't mean they can't make a new hardware revision for it instead, though. Teams have done similar things in the past.
I don't think they will, considering the price of the flashcart people would not be willing to buy a new one all the time to get the latest new feature.

So far, the two updates haven't required any hardware updates. The next update will not require a HW revision - but we do not know if it will bring multirom support.

I thought the same, the possibility is there, anything could technically happen, but hopefully they won't considering they'd screw most of their buyers, and that would kind of suck

true that, i'm crossing my fingers though :P
