Blizzard just trademarked "Warlords of Draenor" in New Zealand. It was then registered in Australia shortly after.
  • Computer game software, computer game discs, downloadable computer game software, computer game software downloadable from a global computer network, interactive multimedia computer game program; downloadable electronic game software for use on portable electronic devices such as mobile and cellular phones, laptops, handheld computers, and tablet PCs.
  • Entertainment services, namely, providing on-line computer games; providing on-line non-downloadable computer games that may be accessed via a global computer network; providing online news and information in the field of computer games.
It's also worth mentioning that warlordsofdraenor.comwas registered a month ago.

I do realize that we had a lot of fun times with trademarks in the past (*cough* Dark Below *cough*) but let's just say that on a personal level I'm pretty confident about this one. I'll leave the speculation up to you guys until Blizzcon.

Personally I am pretty stoked about this! This could mean we will probably see more of the Draenei (which was far overdue) and we'll most likely get in touch with the Burning Legion once more! =D Fuck yeah!

Though this leaves little room for a possible race expansion. It also leaves less room for a new class, although Demon Hunter is still possible or perhaps something unexpected. It could also mean we finally get our updated shiny new models together with broader race customization (possibly sub-races).

Blizzard, how about you stop milking WoW and make another type of Warcraft game?
Ya know, the type of game the whole franchise started as...

Am I the only person who wants a sequel to the sublime Warcraft 3?
Heck, they even got StarCraft 2's engine to build it on.

I mean, seriously, how long can you milk a single game by releasing expansions?

To be fair, there's really only one way to find out. Don't think of it as business, think of it as research.

Let the great experiment begin continue until the heat death of the universe!

The player base has been dipping drastically the last year or so, I think ultimately, they will do one more expansion and then shut the game down in 2016 when they have something new ready like Titan.

Yup, pretty much. Why in earth would they close the WoW servers when they are still making a profit? No one sane would do that, if they are still making profit.

If I remember correctly, Blizzard said that WoW would still be profitable with only a million - 500k subscribers. They're currently at 7.7 million subscribers.

So yeah, it's not stopping anytime soon.

Having just started playing WoW, pretty much yesterday (already have a level 21 wargen hunter), I can safely say that really, it's pretty decent. It's probably because I'm new and paid $10 to get everything up to but excluding the last expansion, and it may help that I have a friend to play the game with, but it really isn't as bad as a lot of people say. I could see long time subscribers being disappointed because, let's face it, everything gets old eventually. Nothing is eternally fun. The friend I play the game with has been an off and on subscriber for the past seven or eight years, sometimes taking up to eight or nine months off before returning for another two or three. It makes sense that the experience would get stale, especially when Mists of Pandaria wasn't exactly a stellar expansion.

For anybody that wants it to die though: from what I know, Blizzard wants to end the series with a return of the Burning Legion (as well as their final defeat, I imagine). They also have a new project in the works that, since they scrapped it in Spring and started rebuilding it from scratch, probably won't be ready for another couple of years. Just expect that once they announce an expansion that brings back the Burning Legion, WoW will probably be on the way out as far as active development goes. For when they will actually let the game totally die, figure probably another six years or so before it's private servers or nothing.

Of course, a year or two after the final expansion, once numbers start really dipping, they could scrap the subscription model and shift entirely to f2p. That would likely shock the system back to life as a profit generating machine via microtransactions for at least another couple of years.

Hmm I foresee one more extention after this, level cap 90 to 95 here then 95 to 100 with the next to full circle..

I do have them games up to Pandaria but i only casually play for the 7 days offers when they are available every big patch release or so, no time for MMO,. I like WoW though, OK engine and a lot to offer, I liked the Panda tanking last time I've tried up to 60 or so.

BTW, folks having one log in your Blizzard Battle.net account, check "my client downloads", they are giving classic oldies for free! Right now, Blackthorne, and upcoming Lost Vikings and Rock 'n Roll Racing! Not sure about Diablo and Warcraft 1 & 2 but I doubt it comes along, too big for no fees..

If they lose a few more million subscribers by not releasing a new expansion soon and do another 9 months of the same raid content, players will walk away. The reality is that the game will eventually die or Blizzard will stop throwing resources at it. The quality of their development the last couple of expansions has been lousy as it is. There will just be a time when people stop enjoying it.

I played WoW off and on since 2006. Stopped playing early this year. Not because I was tired of it (although I wasn't exactly thrilled either), but because most of my friends stopped playing it, so I lost interest. I don't enjoy MMOs unless I have someone to share the experience with.

While I'm not saying World of Warcraft is perfect, or even excellent, a lot of people hate it just because it's World of Warcraft. I was talking to a coworker today (actually it was yesterday, since I have yet to go to sleep), and he said how he hated the game, then said he had a level 20 something. You can't judge a game, especially an MMO, by the first few hours/levels. How many of you WoW haters actually tried it for more than a couple of hours?

On topic: I'd love to see the Demon Hunter. Now that I actually have a job, I can afford the subscription, so I'd like to see where this goes. I won a free Blizzcon Virtual Ticket, so I'm gonna see what they reveal there.

Popularity of MMOs in general has been going down lately.

The numbers do not disagree but I am seeing various opinions on the matter, many seem to blame MOBA/DOTA type games.

Does playing on a 100x or other multiplied server count? Also maybe you should be able to judge by said first few hours/levels, getting better later in the day is very much a valid criticism after all.

It depends on the server, really. Some are very close to the real deal, with the only difference being the amount of time it takes to level, while other servers add a bunch of random crap, and pretty much change everything to make the graphics one of the few things to stay the same in the game.

In regards to your first few hours/levels suggestion, I agree, video games would be much easier to test and play if the first few hours were representative of the game as a whole. But unlike console games, MMOs are designed to have the bulk of playtime be at the end level. Because of this, it's inappropriate (but understandable) to judge World of Warcraft or one of its kin with just a few hours of game time. If someone were to get to the max level, try dailies, PvP, and raiding, and not enjoy any of them, then they'd be able to judge the game after experiencing the bulk of its gameplay.
