I really feel the need to do this.

I understand people want a wishlist, I understand many people invested money in a 3DS, but the amount of people simply complaining and being upset for lack of 5.0+ support is astonishing.

We need to be mature and rational about this. New inventions and breakthroughs don't come out of thin air. They take effort. And I'm worried that the hive-mind sort of emotion here might drive the Gateway team to get negatively influenced or demotivated. All PR does have an effect on devs, and we don't want this team to simply get up and walk away as other teams have in the past. Even if there is some money in it, devs are human beings and poor public reception is very demotivating.

If you don't have a 4.5 or below 3DS, then find any way to save up for one! Or simply don't buy the Gateway card.

I really want to say it like it is because the way the Gateway exploit works reminds me of how the PS3 3.55 exploit works.

The best decision you can make as a consumer is to make the decisions now to find 4.1-4.5, or simply buy retail games and resell them.

Let's be positive about the efforts made so far! The team is doing a fantastic job especially with the recent updates where we can see some real homebrew!

My God, seriously, the whole Gateway thread has been a lot of moaning about lack of 6.x support and whatnot. I've been very tempted to make a post like this and just say, "We get it." If you're on a 6.x console, stop bringing it up and calling attention to yourself. Once or twice is okay, but if you're going to do that every single page, then it's not funny anymore, and more alongside the extremely annoying. And even if they did have 6.x support, you'd still see a lot of complaints and bitching about lack of multi-ROM loading. The entire last thread could easily cut out like 20 pages of posts.

I'm incredibly happy that the Gateway is coming through, I found it to be an awesome cart when I was actively using and testing it. Did I update my 3DS the other day? Yes I did, but I knew full well that this was what I wanted. I knew full well that my Gateway would be rendered useless, but I can always grab a new console for that if the need arises.

Who ever read this site should have known that 4.5 was the last exploitable Firmware,
even before Gateway was announced.

Exactly. I updated to 5.0 because I wanted to play Mario Kart online when I first got my 3DS. It sucked that I got my 3DS a few days after the update but oh well. When I found a good deal on a 3DS XL, I made sure to get it. $150 for a new 3DS XL at Meijer that also came with the paper mario game. These people had months since the Gateway announcement to find a deal on a 4.5 XL, and if they wanted to they could have sold their old 3DS on ebay and the cost difference wouldn't have been much. Instead they hoped some miracle will happen and then bitch when it doesn't.

That's what I don't understand. Selling things on sites like eBay is incredibly easy now, you get payment before you ship, specify in setting where you DON'T ship to, block low feedback members, etc. It's painless. It's nothing like the old days where you can pay whenever and the seller is still forced to ship out, even if it was to Nigeria. Not to mention that the price difference is almost negligible.

Completely true.

They seem to be going for somewhere between $160-$180. Ebay takes around ten percent so you end up with around $144-$162 minus $5 shipping $139-$157

Every other week I see a deal on a brand new 3DS XL for $180, it's pretty much standard price. Just check slickdeals.net or keep a deal alert for "3ds"

So you lose at most $40, the cost of one game. This isn't accounting for the fact that these people had months to actually find a good deal on a 3DS XL. It's not like 3DSs with firmware 4.5 or below are rare like with PS3s, you just have to go to the store pick one up.

I agree people need to accept reality, unfortunately I think I have to return my Gateway 3DS to modchipsdirect as it works then says "game card removed" at least 4 times now. Anyone else had this "working/not working" issue?

Eventually, 6.something will get supported. I made the mistake of upgrading because I wanted to browse the eShop... But that's all on me. I'll just have to wait, and keep from updating from now on. Eventually it'll be solved.
The Gateway team is doing a great job as it is.

Yep, that just about sums it up. Much better than selling to Gamestop. And if you do sell on eBay, having all of the original packaging is a huge plus as well. eBay and Paypal also will send a notice saying whether or not it is safe to ship to a specified address as well. In the payment email, it usually says on top in green, this address is safe to ship to. I can't tell you how many times it's scared me to ship out to a completely foreign address.

You know what is annoying me?
Whenever the Gateway team comes with a new update, you ALWAYS hear people saying "Still no 6.0/6.1/6.3 support".
God, stop complaining about it, you can't just find a new exploit in just 5 minutes.
Just be happy that we ATLEAST got something, and that it's not just another showoff.
Updating to 6.X is your OWN fault, it has been said numerous times to NOT UPDATE TO A NEWER FIRNWARE, IF YOU WANT HAX.

i have see on store: 3ds black 100euro

Does it say: Copyright 2012?
If so, you can buy it; it has a FW lower than 4.5 i believe.
To update to 4.5, just buy Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
I also believe Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D has the 4.5 update.

Yup, and I don't think they can complaint much, since they are the one that made the decision to update(for those 'accidents', you should be more careful..)
I remember seeing something like 'NO 4.5 exploit will be released, and I want eShop, etc etc','I don't wanna buy a 3DS that cannot use this and that..' Well it was their choice, and I don't know why they can still complaint here when in fact they are the one that made the decision to update to enable certain features.

I don't really care about the Gateway, therefore I find those complains annoying the most. I don't really get what functionality this card could have, other than piracy, and I understand even less why people are surprised that a company is doing its best to block this threat as much as possible.
Just wait, or accept the fact that not paying for others' hard work is shitty.

people not understand, gateway make more MONEY if the cart can be used on new fw!
I know why try to ask... lot of people know that: here lot of "Pro coder" have a secret/unreleased stuff and some people hope to discover it.....
(like devolution AP cracking on wii, some user say: i have the way for bypass the ap blablabla..)
For my personal opinion: share information is the base of internet, if people want keep secret any idea/program/code/exploit are better if never TALK about it

Currently the Gateway supports 3ds firmware up to 4.5. I think about 90% of all 3ds owners are on 6.0 firmware or above. At this rate I dont think Nintendo see Gateway as a huge threat.. Imagine what Nintendo would do if Gateway was compatible with the latest version.
