My 3ds is at FW 4.5 and I have a gateway so I am not looking to updated. However, months ago, my 3ds downloaded the updated but has not installed it so every 24 hours I get the annoying update prompt. I am afraid that one day I will accidentally hit OK or someone else will and I will lose my ability to use the gateway. I heard that the gateway installer was supposed to erase the update but it didn't. Is there anything I can do to stop the prompt other than formatting the system memory as I have a downloaded game from the eshop that I do not want to lose.

You can redownload games erased by a reformat. Minus the save of course.

Wrong, you can redownload the games if and only if your console is updated. Since OP doesn't want to update it won't happen.

And I think that there isn't any way to silent the notification or delete the auto-downloaded update without a system format.

Yeah, didn't think about that. His other options appear to be hoping GW team can achieve support for the current firmware with v2.0(or they stop the nag via homebrew code in 2.0), or getting a spare system for GW.

For now, it seems that there's no way to delete the downloaded update from the system memory, but don't worry that much; aside for how annoying it could be, even if you hit "OK", it will ask you one more time if you agree with the terms and conditions, which I believe you can only proceed by clicking OK using the touch screen so it's almost impossible to accidentally update, unless someone else do the evil task behind your back.
