Hardware I'm trading in my 3DSXL console for a 2DS!

Are you trading in a 3DS for a 2DS?

I hope you actually did spend some time trying the 2DS before you trade those in. When I held one, the L/R buttons were really annoying to reach

Yep, but also the L/R can be clicked from the side, you don't need to have your fingers all the way over them, kind of like a GameCube pad.

But it won't fit in your pocket?

I know! never did put the 3DS there, always play at home or at conventions getting Street Pass in my bag on sleep mode.

Don't believe that crap. Nintendo is up to something and it has nothing to do with the shape of the console or its limited capabilities (they could have made a firmware with parental controls over the 3D effects). I smell an over priced peripheral in the near future that can only be used on 2DS.

Why the hell would you want to trade a superior product for an inferior product?

I don't understand, was Nintendo not clear enough about this? The 2DS is a budget version of the 3DS, it's mainly aimed at kids who require an inexpensive and more heavy duty device - inexpensive because if it breaks, it's not nearly as much a loss and heavy duty because kids are careless and aren't friends with weak plastic hinges.

The 3DSXL or even the original 3DS is superior in every way to the 2DS, there's literally no reason to get one if you have either of the two.

I like the shape and button placement better, also the red/white colour scheme reminds me of the Famicon/GBA

I see. I take it that you're in no way interested in the whole "3D" aspect of the 3DS which lays in the very core of the system and is sort of the whole "point" of it, enjoy mono sound and don't mind not having the option of adding a second analog stick then? Alright.

The mono sound was off-puting at first, headphones make it stereo but it didn't bother me on all GB/GBA systems, so it won't here.

Also 2 sticks don't bother me, bought the pad pro for XL never used it. Still have it sitting new in box if anyone is interested haha.

3D is not "The Point", the games are, I never used 3D for more than a few minutes.

I'm not trading in my 3DS for a 2DS for a few reasons:

1) I like using the 3D Features sometimes, I like having that option
2) I like the clamshell design, it helps keeps dirt and fingerprints from getting on the screen
3) I like all my buttons and sticks to be on the same place on the system, the 2DS has some buttons on the top and others on the bottom.
4) I can stick my 3DS in my pocket and not get crap on my screens
5) I have downloaded software on my 3DS and Nintendo has no way to transfer the apps from one system to the other (Including the ambassador stuff.)
6) I honestly think the 2DS looks silly, and it's only $40 cheaper than a pre-owned 3DS anyway.

1. Fair enough.
2. True, but I use a case anyhow.
3. This is where you would think it's weird, it feels good, however.
4. I don't do this but, okay.
5. There is a system transfer option in the settings, you can in-fact transfer ambassador stuff, although it only works once, so if you did it to an XL, you can't to a 2DS.
6. It is only $40 less, however we differ on the silly part, it would look silly if it were actually as big as the online images make it look, it's quite small though.

Japan has sense. To quote wikipedia on 2DS :-
Unlike the first two Nintendo 3DS models, no Japanese release for the 2DS has been announced.

I don't own a 3DS or XL or 2DS, that being said if you like the 2DS more than the 3DS who am I to rain on your parade?

Update this thread if you do get the 2DS let us know your impressions of it, I am curious about how the controls feel how the screen looks that kind of jazz.

Is it worth the cheaper price for the features cut? I think as long as you know what your getting and if you don't like clams or mind it not being 3D and not in stereo then yeah it might be just the ticket for some people.

*On a personal note I have tried the 3DS out at the stores and the 3D looks really cool, but I can imagine that after a while it would just feel meh in my opinion. Of course the game demo's I got to try it on may not have been the best examples of what 3D has to offer. The really odd thing is that the fashion thing (not sure what game it was but I know it was aimed at girls. lol) that seemed to have the best 3D.

I can't see 3D effects due to a visual impairment I was born with, does that make me a loser for getting a 3DS regardless and not taking advantage of what should be the selling point?:creep:

...from a naive public that dont know how to use the 3D effect slider on normal 3DS to turn off 3D.
On this subject, anyone ever noticed that putting the slider to off doesn't really turn off the 3D effect, but just sets it to minimum. If you tilt the screen slightly left or right, you will still get the usual blur associated with the 3D effect out of focus. Now, if you set parental controls to restrict the 3D display, and start the game in 2D (without entering the pin), bingo, no more blurs, no matter how much you tilt the screens. I tested that on my XL. I should try on the regular 3DS too.

Edited because I'm an idiot!:shy:

Huh, wasn't aware of that, I should try that as well.

Everyone else must be part of the minority of people that can't play on 3DS in "3D" mode without getting headaches. Personally I never switch 3D off and have played on it for very long periods (Ocarina of time completed in one session, stopping only for fags, food and drink :) ). I have been told I have 20:20 vision so doesn't appear to have damaged my sight. Also read an article about the affects of 3D images on the under 7 year olds and eye specialists say that viewing 3D images with fully undeveloped eyes(under 7's) does not cause damage to eyes that are following normal development, impaired development can happen if a child's eyes are not developing normally (lazy eye etc). Nintendo (NOA Nintendo of America not Japan are playing on peoples fears and naivety to sell this pointless 2DS).

Anyway to everyone that buys one I wish you happy playing your 3D games in glorious 2D. And give yourselves a pat on the back for being gullable.

It's actually aimed at kids under 7 who by law they can't sell 3D images to.
There is no such law. What there are are paranoid Nintendo lawyers who are scared because of bogus/inconclusive studies that won't let Nintendo sell 3D images without bullshit warnings about how kids under 7 shouldn't use 3D. Funny how all the kids movies in the last 5 years or so have come out in 3D, though...

Not on my XL. Move the slider all the way down and 3D is absolutely off. You can test this with Zelda OOT, as the graphics actually get slightly better in 2D mode.

I really don't like Apple as a company and their products but this is like.

example: .buying a 5S...and then going with the inferior 5c because (just quoting for example) it comes in a color you like that the 5S doesn't offer >_<
