I don't think it has a firmware higher than 4.5 installed, MK7 is a pretty "old" game.

I bought a Mario Kart 3DS bundle at Walmart in April and it was below 4.5. That bundle was put out for XMAS of 2012 so it will be below 4.5. It is a great bundle as it is nice to have mario on the memory card and ready to race any time.

I picked up a new in the box never opened launch 3DS off Craigs List for $120 yesterday. Had to drive 45miles to pick it up but it had firmware 1.0.....lol I was even able to register the club Nintendo points. I have an XL on 5.1 that I transferred all my purchases and ambassador stuff to so I am hoping Gateway eventually gets 5.x or 6.x working....time will tell.

Hey guys I'm wondering if anyone knows what firmware the Shin Megami Tensei IV LL or the Super Robot Taisen UX LL are on? SRT UX was released on March 14, 2013 so I'm hoping it's on 4.5 at least. If nobody knows, does anyone know of any JPN game that can update a White/Black 3ds LL to 4.5?
Gonna have to import a JPN LL to be able to play imports since I don't think anyone is gonna dump the rom for New Love Plus to play on my US 3ds. Unless I can dump JPN backups with my US 3ds? Sorry for so many questions.

I would just hang tight and not worry about the import as the latest gateway video (you tube it) shows them doing both version spoofing letting them run a 5.1 game (mario and luigi dream team) as well as region spoofing showing them running a JAP only game on a EU 3DS XL. So I would say odds are very good you will be able to that JAP game.....it will likely get dumped by someone unless it is totally obscure, but even then maybe in the future we will get a dump method ourselves and you can import it and run it that way.

But what if this turns out like the PS3 hack? I personally wouldn't hack PS3 myself because I had tons of games on it already, but we all know after 3.55, Sony closed all the holes and hackers were too afraid to try and find new exploits in fear of lawsuits.

Who's to say the same wouldn't happen here? After all, finding effective exploits is not an easy task at all and it requires quite a bit of luck (of course alongside a lot of dedication and skill)...
Nintendo's history doesn't exactly suggest it will happen. But maybe they hired a new security team.
Hackers are never going to stop trying though. It's a Nintendo console, and hackers love them.

Well Sony couldn't put end to the endless hacking of PSP and yet with Vita being released for almost 2 years, no signs of hacking yet (except for that brief PS1 emulation hack).

While further hacking is not out of the realm of possibilities, there's also no guarantee of further hacking regardless of how 'confident' the hackers might be about it...

Probably the Vita is just hard to hack. But PSP mode is pretty thoroughly hacked on it I thought?

Nope, it was only a very brief time when it was possible to play PS1 / PSP games through an exploit via the PSN game Uno. Those who did the hacking at that time can still play PS1 / PSP games, provided they have not updated the system firmware since then.

That's what I was referring to in my previous post's parentheses, but I think I was not clear enough... So yeah, I wouldn't call that a thorough hack, but who knows, the lack of any serious attempt to hack the Vita might be due to the fact nobody even acknowledges the system's existence!

I have a new blue 3DS XL, do you know of any way I could trade it or pay a small difference with? Gamestop offers $120 at best, so I'd be out $80. Preferably with 4.5 firmware.

Looking to do something similar, sell my existing blue xl with 5.1 and purchase a new one with copyright 2012. Just trying to think of a way to maximize my money and lose at most $20-30 hopefully.

No, I'll wait it out. I've had my 3DS XL for a week and I don't trust second-hand electronics, plus I'd be out a large sum of money. The Team did say the new firmware was one of their goals and that they are working on it :P

Actually I meant that you can sell it on craigslist and get more than $120, especially if it's new w/receipt.

Eh... I'll wait, The Gateway Team did say it was on their to do list, so I'll hold back till then and make sure my system doesn't get updated.
Well, you have a dilemma. If you choose to wait for the Gateway team to update their product to work on the latest firmware, you run the risk of it never happening, if they can't find a new exploit.

On the other hand, if you choose to sell your updated XL now on craiglist or elsewhere, you still have a good chance of getting a high percentage back of the price you originally paid for it. It's still brand new, you can provide the bill to prove it, and most people are still unaware of the upcoming Gateway card, so don't know they need a 4.5 firmware and nothing above. Wait a few more months and the value of your updated XL will decrease exponentially, as potential buyers are more aware of the "above 4.5" issue. Not to mention the 4.5 units still in stores now will be gone, having sold like cupcakes.

If I were you, I'd bite the bullet and sell at a loss... just make sure the loss isn't too big.

Can't right now, need to wait till I at least get paid. I don't want to be negative, but I've no doubts they will figure it out. I have a hard time trusting people I never met to sell something to me, or me buying, etc, etc.
