There's been a huge negative tone on the success of the Wii U, mostly thrown around by gaming media sites such as IGN.
The Wii U hasn't been strong on sales yet, due to it's weak launch lineup, so I guess basically what I want to say is to Slow Down.
The Wii U has only been out for a bit over 9 months.
9 months, yet look how much we will have by the end of the year, a Zelda remake from a system not that many people owned, a new Donkey kong game, Super Mario 3D World which is the first (?) 3D multiplayer mario game with fantastic looking gameplay and another scribblenauts game.
We're also getting 3 of the best launch titles for the PS4 and XBone, COD Ghost Dogs, AC Black Flag and Watch Dogs.
We've even already been given a rough release date for a new Mario Kart and Smash Bros (the system sellers).
I think that the predictions on the Wii U are a bit rushed.

I think I just pissed myself.

But agreed. It's a Nintendo console, there's no way it's not gonna sell like hotcakes once more games come out.

Like it or not, it'll entice people to pick up the WiiU.

A consumer goes into for example Wal-Mart, and says "You know, I want my Mario and Zelda, but at the same time I want games like Call of Duty... oh wait, I can get that on one console now?"

It'll help push consoles. Not immensely, but it'll help. I wish Nintendo would buy the Monster Hunter franchise to be honest. Make Monster Hunter games on WiiU and 3DS, well get Capcom to do it.

The main problem whit the WiiU it's that it heavily lacks of third party support, and the developers outside the big N are crying of "weak hardware"... pfff c'mon, they are only a bunch of lazy cunts who are focusing on their launch titles for the new consoles, because they know there is a very big chance to sell their games, after all, the launch titles are always best-sellers by the first month or so...

Wii U needs more love from the developers. Games like GTA V, Saints Row 4 and Watch Dogs should be released on Wii U too. The console is even more powerful than those.

If the N64 and Gamecube have taught us anything, it's that Nintendo software saves Nintendo consoles.

Like the Wii was an exception and the Wii U is not the Wii. Unless Mario Kart sells 20+ million on the console it's gonna be staying right where it is with some occasional sales spikes until anyone who wanted a Nintendo system to play Nintendo games has it. And spoiler alert, that amount of people is not that much.

I guess you kinda missed that whole "Wii was an oddity" point.

And more like 20 million lel.

Even then it wasn't a "system seller" on that scale for the SNES or N64 or Gamecube or even the GBA or DS or 3DS.

Overall, it is the second best-selling game for Wii at 34.26 million copies sold, after Wii Sports as of March 31, 2013
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario_Kart_Wii

my bad forgot who I was talking to, only Sony and Microsoft have system sellers.

Regardless of my numbers that was for the Wii which was wildly popular since launch. This isn't. And I don't exactly see the same audience that bought the Wii running out again for a Wii U just for Mario Kart.

The issue with the Wii is that it was a fun gimmick that tons of families bought into but that interest slowly plummeted. There's tons of families who played their Wii a bit and then it just sits around, collecting dust. It's why it saw such a sharp decline near the end of its life. It was a wildfire that was put out quickly. The Wii U did not catch that.

Nintendo games will sell the system but really it's not going to get past that Nintendo crowd. Which is why the N64 and the Gamecube did.

The Wii was an outlier, it's not a new age for Nintendo.

You do realize that a game selling well on a popular system doesn't necessarily make it a system seller, right?

I mean, if there was a spike of Wii sales right around the game's release, maybe that would be a fair conclusion. Unfortunately, the actual evidence shows us that it just wasn't the case. The Wii's sales were in a slump during MK Wii's release, and didn't pick up again until the holiday season, long after the game's release. Maybe some people purchased a Wii for the game alone, but you can't prove that with the evidence available. That's not a fact, it's just a hunch on your part.

If you think that the only thing holding the Wii U back from reaching Wii levels of success are the lack of a Mario Kart or Smash Bros., you are deluding yourself. I mean, feel free to stick your head in the sand, but don't get butt blasted just because some people would like to honestly discuss the console's prospects.

[Sarcasm]B-b-b-but... IT'S SMASH AND MARIO KART!!!
Those shits always sell! [/sarcasm]
I find it hilarious that people thought that the wii was a success because of it's ninty games first and foremost and not because of the fact that it brought casual gaming into the industry.
If smash and mario kart gets released while there's barely any established fanbase for the wiiu. It will flop. Simple as that.

A consumer goes in to Wal-Mart and buys the game for a system they already have with a more active online community, they don't buy a new system for it. People who get a Wii U know very well they are just getting it for Mario and Pikmin.

i still say, wait till the other two consoles are out and if microsoft really can stand the 540° they announced.

lets wait until we know if the new consoles wont suffer something like the RROD or if companies truly release all those games they announced (like they did for certain nintendo consoles before those consoles were released)
in the end, many probably are still waiting it out. they want to see how good all three current gen consoles will do before deciding what to do next.

lets wait how much games will really cost. what features will be removed after half a year and what limitations will be imposed.you know just as well as I that always online is just one agb change away.

just wait and chill
