It's surprising that the PS4 struggles to render these graphics smoothly when there are games similar to this fidelity with higher scaled areas that run smoothly on the Amiga.

GIF 1
- NPC's have unnatural animations, devs don't seem to be utilizing motion-capture. What is this, the PS2?
- Low-quality road textures. Seems to hint at a RAM deficiency in the system.
- Lighting isn't dynamic enough.
- Shitty AI, other characters walking around mindlessly.
- Clothes sway unnaturally, fuck even Metro 2033 on last-gen consoles had better cloth physics.
- Low-resolution shadow maps. Ubisoft, do you even program?
- Headlights on cars don't have a light-source.
- Leaves seem to be shitty 2D textures.
- Tree leaves appear to be two-dimensional in nature.

GIF 2
- Window breaks apart in an unnatural manner, scripted scene?
- Player character doesn't have a shadow, technical limitations.
- Few particle effects despite shattering of a window.
- Clunky animations, still not utilizing motion-capture.
- Intrusive UI in an attempt to make it look futuristic.
- Not enough impact when car door closes.
- Car shadow increases in size for no apparent reason.
- Police car in the background glitches.
- Clothes do not sway despite all the movement going on.
- 256x256 floor textures?

Ugly game.

Please tell me you're joking.
Congratulations, I'm joking.

Look at these poor responses... the randomizer trying to convert this colloquial conversation into a grand central thesis with I-grabbed-these-words-from-a-thesaurus jargon, mixed with mental gymnastics (these graphics are amazing>graphics dont matter>they look better than a near decade-old game) fit for the olympics.

Sure, this ploy for a reaction test was cliche and lame of me, but hate me for being unoriginal, not honest.

I'll never understand how people can enjoy trolling.

Gif 1
- NPCs walk naturally
- Roads have various dotting-art layers, simulating the imperfections of gravel/asphalt
- Main light source (sun) casts shadows in proper direction, while street lights and neon signs cast light in proper directions
- AI interacts on the left by hugging, and the lady on the phone makes eye contact when walking by. Amazing AI
- Jacket flap DOES follow a visibly pattern, but the pattern velocity decreases when he walks behind an obstacle, increasing the presentation depth
- Simulation of a GPS, which by default would have average resolution
- Cars don't need headlights on in daytime
- Leaves have believable motion in the wind and even collect on the ground
- Leaves are two dimensional in real life
Gif 2
- Possible area impact motion script
- Player's shadow is cast from the same lightsource as the NYPD car's shadow, making the shadow overlap and blend
- Smoke from bullets, residue from bullet impacts, particles collecting on the ground
- Smooth animations, from the character movement to the shutting of the car door to particle effects
- Maybe
- Door is open-fingered closed, not slammed
- Car shadow remains immotile
- Khaki pants won't sway the way your dress does
- Who knows?

Welcome to the internet! I personally would like to thank you for calling my response a grand central thesis! I didn't use a thesaurus but thanks anyway. At least you had the balls to fess up.
Thank you! And I look forward to the publication of your manifesto of bullshit, self-conceit, pseudo-eloquency, and taking insults for compliments!

You can't be brave on the internet. I don't find your idiocy heroic, and you shouldn't find my idiocy ballsy.

Excuse me? So, you come on the thread that I made, crack jokes that no one laughs at, and you expect people to take that without backlash? Perhaps it would have been better if you didn't post it in the first place, you know, since we wouldn't be bickering right now.

This is your last warning before I bring the mods in.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
