You wouldn't happen to be the person from the craigslist ad asking for help, would you? Something tells me you are.

If you're so worried about bricking it, even though it is hard to do unintentionally, take a look at what Preloader does. I'm pretty sure ModMii installs it by default.
What Preloader does is load before the Wii's operating system. This allows you to restore the NAND (the Wii's operating stuff) should anything ever go wrong. You'll have to backup the NAND first, and that should be one of the steps of ModMii.

There is no way to brick Wii with the ModMii program. And system version is no matter. Just read carefully directions ModMii is give and you are okay.

Basically this is what I did when I bought one last year:

Updated my Wii to 4.3
Installed HBC via LetterBomb
Installed Priiloader
Used BootMii to backup the NAND

Once you get to the BootMii screen you're kinda homefree once you've got your NAND backed up. Very unlikely to brick your Wii really unless you go installing WADs or messing with the iOS but that comes after backing up the NAND.

it told you as you went through the installer, by default it told you what where SD card files and if you selected to option what where HDD file, for someone so worried about bricking you seem to fail at reading instructions ModMii tells you

try this tutorial! it's what i did to softmod my wii.

also, you want to install bootmii as boot2 (if you can, sometimes it will not let you) as it will help with any possible future bricks. after you do that, get priiloader, it will also help with any future bricks, plus backup your NAND and keep it in a safe place.
