AVG says its a trojan it is in my /programfiles/hp folder, im thinking it was a false positive but I removed it anyway, what do you guys think?

All it takes for a file to be detected as a "virus" is sharing a sufficient part of machine code with a virus to be deemed "similar" - if it was actually HP's DLL, it might have been harmless and could cause stability problems. Alternatively, a virus may "latch onto" a genuine file (infect) in which case it is preferable to attempt to cure it and if that's impossible, delete it.

Really don't know what hp update even is, this is a fresh install of windows, just for some reason I remember I had to install the hp support assistant for something, but I never had to use it.
Depends. It could be a troyan which latched onto the file, it could be a file that was similar to a troyan - you'll never know since it's gone now.

was one other guy had the same prob this month, I kinda highly doubt it was a virus cause I really dont do anything much other then go to this site on my windows partition (any real surfing is done on linux) but I guess you never know really.
I think it's a false positive. The way updaters work usually resembles a trojan. I'm guessing AVG tuned their heuristic's engine and poor HP updater happened to be classified as a trojan.
