Well, what private keys are you referring to? Because there would be no reason for SD encryption to be asymmetric, they could use a single key...
... I just asked if the private keys are stored in the 3DS or not.*facepalm. Most of the time, they are, and yet Sifjar said they aren't So I wanted to be sure.

What mistake did sony make?
If i recall they stored both keys on the ps3 but as of 3.56+ the private keys are encrypted with a high end algorithm one that we have A .000000000000000000000001% chance of cracking we need the algo key and the private key to sign cfw/homebrew again for 3.56+ ofw

So PS3 has no Homebrew again yet?

and don't say the lv 0 keys solved it cause you can only go up to higher cfw cause we have the unencrypted key for 3.55 and below the other way you can update the cfw is by installing over a current cfw on your ps3

Storing the private keys into the console so it could be found by hackers (Fail0verflow). Which means that they could sign unofficial content with it on any PS3, which means that the console itself wouldn't even need to be hacked. Not only that, if the key were to be changed, it would render old games useless since the games that were signed before wouldn't be compatible with the new key.
The private key was later posted by a hacker named geohot, later Sony sued both the hacker and Fail0verflow.
I don't think it's been fixed... although I am NOT SURE if it has been fixed at all!

Edit: it's been fixed as now they are heavily encrypted apparently. Which makes it harder to crack. XD

As far as I remember, the private keys weren't actually stored on the PS3. Sony just botched their encryption algorithm in a way that let f0f guys calculate the key from other known values.

Not only that, if the key were to be changed, it would render old games useless since the games that were signed before wouldn't be compatible with the new key.

Newer firmwares had a different private key, and a whitelist of all software signed with the old key.

yes is changed somewhat at 3.56+ they implimented a blacklist and white list so older games will work but unoffical brew wouldn't

"most of the time, they are" - no they aren't. That would completely defeat the point of assymetric encryption. The only time private keys were stored on a console was some of the PSP keys being stored on the PS3.

btw we might not need the private keys, all we need are the public and SD keys even to run roms off the SD card simmilar to running isos off of the psp's MS

@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
