I wasn't particularly impressed by the demo either. Unskippable intro at the beginning (and no way to speed it up), so it's like almost 3-4 minutes wasted right there, if you've seen it before. Having to constantly switch to the bottom screen to draw or erase a figure really breaks all the momentum of the action. Besides that, the game does look nice, and play ok, as long as you're not drawing stuff. Might still be worth a buy for me, but only in the 10-20 dollars range. No more than that.

It pains me to see people blinded by their hatred of being blinded by nostalgia. :P

There is no such thing as hatred in this case.
People are buying the game because it's a Mickey game,
and it makes reference to old good Genesis and SNES classics.

Everybody knows this game sucks.
It shouldn't even be a catridge game.
But for the reasons I said above, people still buy it.

That's what pains me to see, do you follow that?

Lol :P
I don't know why ppl love this game though
I've played the demo and it's so boring and childish.

Its fucking Mickey Mouse, what are you expecting him to do? Sit around drinking whiskey whilst discussing the merits of utilitarianism with Goofy?

One thing that surprised me is that they remixed some of the story elements for the Demo. I didn't think they'd put the time into making the Demo experience so different.

I can only imagine how long it took to draw and animate all the individual Disney licence sprites. No wonder there's not much voice acting...

I'm in the third 'wing' of the castle currently. It's managed to draw my attention from Paper Mario for now.

I was just joking, dude. Hence the :P face.

I haven't played the game or demo, so I can't make a serious judgment. But just based on what I see, I can't imagine paying $40 for a game like that which should be on the eShop for $10 or so.

I kinda wished Capcom made Disney games again but with them turning into such corporate trolls it would probably not be a good idea. :glare:
Disney games back then were pretty awesome, especially with the likes of Capcom making their games. Their platformers (like Aladdin) in particular were especially great, probably thanks in no small part to their experience with Mega Man.

The SNES Disney games were great, true, and the Genesis games were amazing too, while being entirely different from the SNES versions. Sega's Aladdin was made by David Perry, of Cool Spot and Earthworm Jim's fame, and Mickey's Castle of Illusion came directly from Sega's AM7, in Japan. I also remember Quackshot being very good. All good roms to try on your emulators, guys.

In what way is it childish? Or do you mean childlike?

There is nothing wrong with something being childlike.

I don't know, I just think it's boring and it sucks. It's like some abandoned DS game. And the 3D effect doesn't have a purpose at all except for showing the depth on the windows and stuff.

This is just wrong on so many levels.

:creep:

Heheheheh, Well in kingdom hearts he's cool ^_^

That's one of my points I said above.
Look at Shantae, it's a good game, with similar graphics, for $10.
That's exactly what this Epic Mickey should have been.

Back in my days, childish games were awesome not lame. Seriously, Disney should focus better on their games. Graphic and soundwise it's amazing, but the story sound like it was made for a children book and the gameplay for a child who is playing its* first game ever.

Just for curiosity, is the form "a child who is playing its first game" correct or I should use his/her instead?

Ah! Above all, I love this review's sentiments toward Mickey's outright blandification :'D

The game is "meh". Regardless of its nostalgic value, it's obviously geared toward the little'uns. It has nifty source material, but it's dumbed down and bland to cater to the tykes. In that regard, it's exactly like today's Mickey Mouse!

That's why I say Disney should have made a partnership with Capcom or Sega for this game.
There were true amazing games from Disney and Capcom, such as Aladin, and Goof Troop.
Castle of Illusion from Genesis had the support of Sega.

Doing this, we would have a huge chance of a outstanding and unique game,
not this lame game.

I think the main error was to target the game development at small children while making it a sequel to Castle of Illusion (which called the attention of nostalgic gamers from the 16-bit era, clearly the wrong audience for the game). My impression is that Epic Mickey is like those small children book with lots of illustration and with pages for drawing/coloring. They just added an easy 2d platformer behinds these concepts and called it a game.

Disney did partner with a good studio though, it's called DreamRift. Seeing the other game they developed, Monster Tale, it seems to be just what Epic Mickey needed to be more of a succesful 2d platformer.

I don't really see it targeted to "small children" as much as the main series game is.

Like I don't see much in this game (albeit I haven't played it) that targets it at children outside of being bright and colorful, which hardly means it's targeted at children as much as it is a broad audience.

I think his/her would be most correct.. and facebook seem to use "their" when unsure of gender.. maybe they assume it's a group :)
