Earlier this year I bought a 3DS. I ended up trading it with someone who just wanted a red console, I traded it because there one had all of the ambassador titles on it as well as some digital content. A few months later I sold my 3DS and I haven't missed it at all. :(

I'll be honest, I can't say I enjoyed the 3DS as much as other Nintendo consoles before it, actually apart from the Virtual Boy I'd say that at the moment it is their worst platform.

Aside from Pushmo, there aren't any games I miss at all. GB/GBC/GBA/DS, played the hell out of those from launch down to the dying years. Wii, loved it. Those who say it doesn't have games haven't looked hard enough...3DS though, lacks a certain something.

I've played the main "best titles". 3D Mario Land was very uninspiring, I understand it was meant to bridge the gap between the NSMB series and Mario 64 but for me it was the most boring Mario and safe title I played. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad game but I never felt much excitement for it when I played it. However the 3D is done extremely well and for me it does prove that there is a place for 3D gaming however it does make the game so so much easier.

Mario Kart 7, again meh. I've grown tired of this series, the Wii game didn't do much for me. I actually enjoyed Double Dash and the only problem that game had was the track length, I loved Super Circuit and MK DS was a great introduction into online MK play. MK7 is just another MK game, Nintendo seems to be scared to take chances with the series after Double Dash wasn't received as well.

RE: Revelations...looked very good, bought the series back to it's survival routes but overall I played it to the end and only found it to be serviceable, also the enemies were really bland.

Kid Icarus, I enjoyed this...while it lasted but I didn't care to replay the game again. I loved the multiplayer but I hardly know anyone who had the game so hardly ever got to play it enough.

Future titles like Paper Mario & Luigi's Mansion 2 looks good enough but still...nothing essential. The 3DS doesn't have one game that is essential. It has many games that are good enough but nothing like Mario Galaxy, Ocarina of Time (sssh yeah I know of the port but that is cheating), Super Metroid...nothing outstanding that wows me.

Overall my feeling of the 3DS was that it was clearly rushed out, it kinda feels meaningless in a way. It's like Nintendo didn't know where else to go with a handheld so just did something a bit more powerful and added 3D which even they themselves don't push now. Not a bad gaming product in the least bit (just venting here) but 3DS does seem to be a very uninspiring platform, it is nothing more than a DSi with better graphic capabilities and some 3D. After the huge strides that the DS and the Wii achieved it doesn't feel like a proper successor.

Personally I was a release day buyer and I never had a single complaint about it. Unlike most people, there was a game that interested me enough to get the system at launch, Samurai Warrior Chronicles, for someone like me that loves those games, the idea of having my own player character sold me, so I spent like two months on that game, getting everything I could.

However I do agree that there aren't many interesting games, for me, the genre that I love the most hasn't gotten many entries on the system yet, which is RPG, besides Kingdom Hearts, Tales of the Abyss (while I love the game, I'd be happier if it wasn't a direct port and more of a remake or enhancement) and Heroes of Ruin (still waiting for a few others but besides those don't recall any others out atm in Europe).
Besides those games I just mentioned there's also the Harvest Moon, Kid Icarus and not many others that really enticed me.

If there's one type of game that should be explored on the 3DS is games like Spirit Camera, I loved the game but it was short, the 3D effect mixed with the gyroscope could bring birth to amazing horror and survival games on the 3DS...

Still, I really wonder why games like Dragon Quest Terry's Wonderland and some others from SE and other big companies haven't been localised yet. D<

B-b-bu-but you haven't played Virtue's Last Reward yet. Nuuuuuuu you have to believeeee TT^TT
Yeah it's like you say.
From what I understood from your post, Hadrian, you just miss games with a good story for the 3DS, something I have been missing too.
The games that made the DS really worth it for me where games like 999, professor layton, ace attorney, Hotel Dusk, some good RPG's (mainly FF but I had never played those before) and other story-driven games and as far as I can tell there aren't any of these released yet.
Well except for professor layton.

Not exactly story heavy games... That being said, VLR will probably be awesome and a must have for me personally (I preordered it like three weeks ago and I hardly ever preorder stuff).

Now I reread that I don't even know anymore how I even came to this conclusion...
It's sad to say that I will probably buy VLR for PSVita, actually just because of the bigger screen.
Maybe it just needs some inovative games with fun gameplay and 'feel', which is why I liked Mario galaxy and OoT so much.

There isn't anything there that makes me want to get a new 3DS.

I usually defend the fuck out of Nintendo but not with the 3DS.

You dont know what essential means if your going to tell me Kid Icarus, OoT 3D (if you havent played it) and MK7 arent essential.
Going by those recommendations, you have no idea what essential means.

KI is not essential. It's not even close. I enjoyed it while it lasted but I'm not itching to replay it.
OoT...nope, there is no reason to why I would want a 3DS just to play a prettier version of a game I can play on my N64/Gamecube that I have beaten over and over. I have nothing against the way the old versions look either.
MK7 isn't essential, its quite flawed. Tired version of a tired franchise. Its still great for multiplayer but I only like to play with people I know personally.

That's what you get for being an early adopter.
I don't think getting it 9 months (or whatever) later is being a early adopter.

Yeah it's like you say.

Not at all, I can't remember the stories of such greats like Galaxy, Demons Crest, Arabian Nights or MULE.

I miss games with great replayability in single player modes.

Sounds more like your just picky in the kind of games you like, which isnt a bad thing. But does make me wonder why you would even post this if your purely complaining. We have more then enough topics like that here.

Yes, why would a person want to express their personal opinions, especially on a gaming forum of all things? It boggles the mind.

(Also, criticism doesn't necessarily equal complaining. Saying otherwise is a weak way of dismissing opinions that disagree with your own.)

Pretty much that.

As I said, this was meant to be a blog post but blogs aren't here at the moment.

And yeah I am picky and I think playing games from the early 80's right until now has made me so. I do expect more from my retail titles, I can let things slide for cheaper releases but being a grown up person who has to give his cash & time for none entertainment purposes I do expect something more especially from a company like Nintendo who have proven that they can deliver the goods.

I am quite bummed that the 3DS isn't doing it for me but on the upside at least I know I'm not a douchebaggy fanboy.

I respect your opinion.
But over the years I became quite fond of my DS ( just like you say, you also enjoyed previous handheld systems ) , and there were a number of games that you simply couldn't get anywhere else.
Games like Professor Layton, Phoenix Wright, Mario Kart, a Mario RPG of some kind ( Mario & Luigi ) Hotel Dusk and sequels, Dementium, Gost Trick and many, many more.
Since technology moves forward, so do the game developers, and now sequels to most of those games that I loved on the DS will come out on the 3DS.
I HAVE TO GET one, if I want to play the sequels, and also new, original content seems to be headed to the system.

I didn't get one yet, I'm too busy these days to focus on yet another game system, but I'll get one eventually when all the titles I care about will be on it exclusively.
It's inevitable.
So , I really don't get your point. If you enjoyed previous Nintendo handled, how can you not enjoy the 3DS ?
maybe you need to be a little patient and wait for the right games to come along ?

The fact that you purchased one so early, and got rid of it so quickly, tells me that patience is not your virtue.....

I got rid of it as I needed the cash at the time, nothing to do with patience and since I sold it (I think June, I may have had it for 3 or 4 months) there hasn't been one game to draw me back to it. I would have kept it forever if things weren't a bit crap at the time. Before I got rid of it, it had been on the shelf for at least a year. Within the same amount of lifetime the Wii & DS both had more than enough really good titles that I felt were essential that I wanted to keep on playing.

My point is that, since I sold it I haven't missed any of the titles and nothing upcoming really screams "pick another 3DS up".

Hadrian bro.. I kinda know what you mean. However, I've had lots of fun with OOT 3D, due to the updated graphics, it's fun to play again... And casually playing Mario 3D Land it has lasted a long while for me. But one of those killer games I am dying to play is Luigis Mansion 2... Holy shit.. That game I will be 'baitin to ;) if you know what I mean haha.

and adventure time... srsly... I gotta play that one! :3
