I have a 3DS with the latest firmware and was wondering what's the best 3DS-DS compatible one?

what about AK2i?
The Acekard 2i has been very slow in updating for DSi/3DS compatibility (it can take over a month lately), and isn't compatible with the latest 3DS update.

In addition the DSTwo can do things other flash carts can't, like emulate GBA and SNES games with decent compatibility, do save-state, in-game text file viewing, and more.

The DSTwo in terms of features is the best, as it has a CPU in the card that lets it run GBA emulators and SNES emulators at (mostly) full speeds. It's the more expensive of the DS Flashcards. Then there's the choice between the AK2i and r4igold 3ds from r4ids.cn. I personally would choose the r4igold 3ds, seeing as I've had one since launch and it has yet to fail me,it with a quicker firmware updating than ak2i and it can support 3DS V4.4.0-10 as well.Maybe you can give this card a shot.

Why doesn't anyone point out DSTwo's ability to patch itself on a blocked 3DS without the assistance of other/older/obsolete DS units?

I mean... you don't need an obsolete/multiple DS units to patch your card for you... Pretty fucking imporant feature if you ask me. Saved my ass atleast 3 times this year.

Any suggestions on the best place to get a DSTwo preferably here in the US? Also are there clones and counterfeits you need to be aware of?

It's not an issue if you don't update.
How else are you supposed to buy Mighty Switch Force or redeem free game codes you get from promos?

And there are a ton of products in the world where a fail safe system makes all the difference in buying one item over another.

We've never seen a fake DSTwo.

The same way all the other flash cart users do it. They update the cart first, then the system. The secondary update method is definitely great, but if users come to rely on it that's just asking for trouble. The DSTwo is fast with it's updates, but it's not instantaneous. The updates don't magically come into existence, so if people update the system first they could find their DSTwo unusable for a while even with the secondary update system because it needs the update to exist.

This is console hacking, against the manufacturer. Unlike other areas, here the manufacturer of the device is working specifically against the user's needs, attempting to repeatedly restrict them. Sort of like rooting phones. There's some simple rules, such as "don't automatically run every system update you see".
