So I was checking out Ctrl Alt Delete today to see the new comic, and it seems he (along with quite a few others) has stumbled upon quite an interesting zombie mod for ArmA II (lol). I find it silly the people who made this used ArmA II considering how generally shitty the game is, but I figured I'd check it out a little bit and see if it was worth it.

First off, holy fucking shit 30GB install. Thank god the mod is only a 150MB or so.

Secondly, meh. The mod is alright, nothing extraordinarily special. At first I thought it would be pretty damn cool, as everyone I've talked to/seen talk about has said this mod is like some revolutionary Zombie game that everyone should play (despite all of the bugs everywhere). I played it for only 20 minutes on my own LAN server to see what it was like before playing online, and...well it's buggy. And kinda boring. And really annoying. Accidentally step a little to close to a Zombie? RUN FOR YOUR DAMN LIFE AND SHOOT THE DAMN THING. But wait! You can't shoot and run at the same time! (Or maybe I was doing it wrong, I don't really know). You (or maybe just me) have to just stand there and shoot it while it charges at you full speed.

ArmA II is just a shitty game by itself, though, so I can't really blame the mod for it. And I have yet to figure out what I'm supposed to do really, so there's that, too. But if you haven't already, check it out by going to http://www.dayzmod.com I think some peopl here might enjoy it.

It's kinda like a Stalker game, if it were... third-person, and boring.

I watched Criken's last stream of the game though, and it was awesome. You have to watch the whole thing--it was nerve wracking and perfect. People were logging on to his server just to try and kill him, and criken and co. were running like hunted animals. Flares would fly up and they'd freak out, sniper shots sent them crawling away, worrying, crying--it was awesome.

Watched a friend play it for about 1 hour this week. Looked very cool and excellent graphics, but he was incredibly frustrated (and I would be too) because he literally run/sneaked for tens of minutes, to then be killed by some other fucker/monster. He didn't have any chance, he could only run :/

Ah, that's your problem right there.

Anyway, I've heard good things about Day Z from people who are really into roleplaying in those sorts of games. For the people interested, the depth and dedication required is great; for everyone else, though, it's probably not the best fit.

Woah now, CAD has it's moments.

Yeah, anyone who isn't interested into that crap won't enjoy it very much (or at least will be shunned). I kinda betrayed someone because they were an asshole and he literally freaked a shit. I stopped after that.

Hopefully Arma 2 is on sale at the Steam Summer Sale because it looks like fun to play with a couple friends. In single-player, I would just get frustrated easily.

No.
Sure it does, it's just...not very often. I started reading it a few years ago and just....like to keep up with it I suppose.

I'd just say that Buckley doesn't deserve the traffic and leave it at that.

Alright, alright... If CAD got its own Arma II mod, would it be called DayZzzz? (Sorry, had to get that out of my system)

I think the CAD ArmA mod would be called "ArmA II: A Mod Featuring Many Different Aspects Akin to Zombie Games, Shows, and Films, While Still Relying on the Highly Realistic and Enjoyable Gameplay of ArmA to Make the Game Both Challenging and Addictive."

Abbreviated it's "ArmA II: Words"

But one of my friends recently got hooked on this, he says it's really good. I mean it's good enough to push ArmA high up on the Steam list and on Steam sales and there's even talks about a separate Day Z game.

Arma is a great game. Most don't have the attention span to deal with running across a 200km map. It's like any other simulator. 30 gb isn't bad for that. Look at the size of some flight sims, then rethink that comment. These days short attention spans aquire a taste for COD and the likes. If you know how to script, this game can do amazing things. Yes, it was never optimized to it's potential, but this isn't a large developer with oodles of dough. It has a strong community, and can be a very absorbing game if you thirst for realism. Bohemia Interactive actually listen to their community, a trait some devs could learn from. The next sequel in the series looks to be more promising, and hopefully will be. Regardless of the bugs, this game delivers the best sanbox type experience of any military shooter there is. This mod is further proof of the power behind it's engine. What other dev can say that their game engine is used in real life military combat simulators?

Answer. None
