This is more akin to "assimilation" rather than a voluntary fusion, I'd assume.

It's not like fusing things was ever a unique concept, anyway, though. You could argue DBZ did it before Digimon, and other things surely did it before DBZ.

Digimon really isn't... Digimon was a Tamagotchi toy way before the first Pokemon games were released, and really, the only similarities between the two is that you raise monsters that eventually change into more powerful monsters.

Everything else is pretty drastically different. Digimon actually has numerous good storylines.

I think the anime might have been, but I don't have specific dates or anything, so don't quote me on that one, but the franchise definitely existed before the Pokemon games.

Not like the Pokemon anime ever stood a chance against the Digimon one, anyway (in terms of quality, at least).
