NSMBU should have Online Co-Op
NSMB2 Look identical to the DS one(Graphics) and the WiiU one(Gameplay)

Nintendo is already milking this franchise

The game looks identical to the DS game.
I'm not a graphics whore, but the 3DS could definitely handle visuals on par with the Wii version.

That's exactly what I'm saying! :D
I don't know why people get mad when I say this!
This game could have much better graphics!
When we compare the 2D of SM3DL and this, it's laughable!
How can a 3D Mario have better 2D than a 2D Mario?!

They need something new. NSMB was boring after beating Bowser. NSMB Wii didn't keep me playing more than World 1-1 and I am sick and tired of rebooting and milking franchises. I want something completely new, or at least make the game very cheap.

God, that really does look like the other one :(
Indeed... the graphics barely look clearer at all. And before anyone says they do...

Honestly, if it weren't for the racoon suit, I wouldn't be able to tell which one is which.

Except that the first is in it's proper resolution whereas the 3DS version as been stretched.
The models look the same, but uprezed and smoother.

The 3DS version isn't stretched... the 3DS has a wider top screen, remember? That's how it's supposed to look. And if the game looks the same "except for resolution" (I'm not 100% what you're trying to say when you say the first one has the wrong resolution)... well, then that just proves my point.

The top picture, which is taken from the DS version, is in a 1:1 ratio. Its proper resolution. If you hold a DS side by side with that picture the sizes of the screen and the picture match up.
The bottom picture however, which is from the 3DS version, has been stretched quite a lot from its original resolution. Thus when you play it on a 3DS it will be smaller and look better / smoother.

Also, as I quoted before, people who have actually played the game in person have said it looks smoother and higher-res.

That's my problem though... does it offer anything else but "smoother, hi resolution" graphics? And how much, honestly? The video trailer on the 3DS itself doesn't look much better, that's all I can say.

I don't get why that's a problem... They stated it's a sequel, not a new game. Why should you expect it to look vastly different?

I think the emphasis on collecting "coins" is jumping the shark a bit for the series....they took one of the most useless pickups(hey, they can get you extra lives at least) and made the entire game revolve around it....sounds like they ran out of ideas........

It's a sequel, not a new game.
Exactly. You have to remember that NSMB was the first all-new Mario side-scrolling platformer since Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. Up until now, just about every Mario side-scroller has offered something new (I'm not counting re-releases like SMB Dx and Super Mario Advance). I mean, let's look at the history right here...

-Super Mario Bros.: The first Mario side-scrolling platformer. Introduced most of the core ideas we know and love.
-Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan): Pretty much the exact same as SMB, but somewhat better graphics, slightly modified gameplay mechanics, and much harder levels.
-Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA): A Mario-branded re-release of Doki Doki Panic. Nonetheless, introduced some play mechanics and characters that have stayed throughout the series.
-Super Mario Bros. 3: A completely new game. Uses the same core idea of the original SMB (get to the goal at the end without dying or falling off cliffs, using power up in the process!), but completely revamped and improved in just about every way.
-Super Mario Land: A sort of "generic" Mario platformer greatly hindered by the hardware and technology of the time.
-Super Mario World: Another all-new Mario platformer. Further improved on the concepts introduced in SMB3, added new powerups (some of them in the form of Yoshi and the different colored shells), as well as very creative themed worlds. Easily the most extensive 2D Mario game to date.
-Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins: Somewhat similar to Super Mario World in a few respects. Like Super Mario World, the game was very creative in its design, bosses, and levels.
-New Super Mario Bros.: The first all-new Mario platformer in 14 years. Acts as sort of a "celebratory" game that pays tribute to the original SMB. Very fun and nostalgic.
-New Super Mario Bros. Wii: A sequel to NSMB that capitalizes on the console's power for new motion controls, more power ups, prettier environments, and very fun multiplayer. Also adds Yoshi, like SMW.
-Super Mario 3D Land: (technically not 2D, but it uses the same play style, so I'm including it) "A 3D Mario game that plays like a 2D Mario game". A bit easy, but very, very fun! Cool to see the standard "64" Mario game mechanics in a "classic" Mario environment!

So basically, pretty much every classic Mario platformer up until this point has brought something seriously new to the table (except for SMB2 Japan and Super Mario Land). Upcoming, we have....

New Super Mario Bros. U: A sequel to the Wii game. New power ups, plus some really cool extensive multiplayer game mechanics involving the Wii U Gamepad. Also brings back some other old elements, such as baby Yoshi.
New Super Mario Bros. 2: A sequel to the DS game that... improves resolution and adds a golden coin gimmick that seems to serve no purpose except making the game ridiculously easy (the trailer shows you still get extra lives every 100 coins) and add a sorta-cool high-score social feature. Also adds the multiplayer already seen in the Wii version.

So, that's my main problem... As we see it now, NSMB2 adds nothing to the table except some features not in the DS version (but already in the Wii version), better resolution, and a coin gimmick. Granted, this is only the trailer, and things might be different when it comes out. But with the Wii U version, we can still see some awesome new features, even though it too hasn't come out yet. So there's really no reason, if there are any other really new things in NSMB2, why they haven't shown them.

Also, SMB3 was technically "just a sequel" (as you said) to SMB, and it still had tons of new stuff... so how is that an argument?

I know, it's weird how they don't listen to fans ideas to freshen up the games, just reading things like Nintendo magazine/forums could give them some vibes..but no, instead they leave their infamous blinkers on. Shame really, they could come up with all sorts of different concepts, even a new Super Mario Bros 2 style game would be interesting. They haven't re-done that yet..even though it wasn't originally meant to be a Mario game.

OK, that's a completely different point. Which I happen to agree with. If you look at my previous posts you'll see that I was just wondering why you were so concerned about the graphics.

This. I wouldn't have such a bother with the coins, if they actually did something. I mean, yeah everybody says that NSMBWii was hard, and with multiple people it was even harder. I played through that game from start to end with 2 other buddies and still had over 80 lives.

Well the game seems to be centered around coins. So I think the option to buy power-ups and upgrades (and mabye a house/base to flee to).

What was always fun in NSMB for the DS were the mini games. Maybe the coins you collect from the mini games(assuming they have any) could go towards your total in the adventure. I'd like to see what mini games they can bring out for the 3DS.

Oh wow... sorry, I had a derp moment and forgot that bit! :-p

Anyway... my problem is, the 3DS has had better graphics. Take a look at the level selection menu on SM3DL... I don't see why NSMB2 can't look that good, either.

and I know this isn't really their fault (since hardware differences were much greater back then), but I like how previous SMB games (except SMB2 Japan) all looked wildly different from each other.
