While tueidj and I don't get along, I respect him greatly as a developer, even more than I do Nintendo. In addition, if someone breaks the AP on Devolution, I doubt he will continue to work on it, although I can't speak for him. The AP will make it harder for me because the majority of my GC discs are now scratched to the point where they freeze or won't launch, but I understand him not wanting it to be a warez loader.

Unfortunately he is wasting time trying to prevent piracy of games that aren't commerically viable and can already be pirated.
If Devolution ever gets released then it's unlikely it will be able to compete with dios mios.

He doesn't want to prevent GC games piracy (because he can't). He wants to prevent using pirated games with his app (which he can).

How is pirating those old games pirating, anyway?
They aren't being sold anymore by retail....

I see we're derailing from the topic. this is about DIOS MIOS, not Devolution. if you want to discuss its Anti-Piracy, go to it's own topic.

This one again? Copyright covers material for 100 years (I think it's 100 anyway), then they become public domain. Until that time, the content is still copyrighted and obtaining it without purchasing/permission from copyright owner is piracy. Regardless of whether it is still available at retail or not.

Length of copyright is not universal and depends on country. That said, legality and ethics are two very different domains....

I know legality and ethics are different, but he asked "is it really still pirating?" which is a legal question, not an ethical one. And regardless of country, I'm pretty sure every GC game still falls under the period of copyright.

Fixed.

If you must have retail games for Devolution how you'll be able to load games from usb or sd?It doesn't make sense, does it?

I'm guessing Devolution will still run games via USB but it'll need a disk to check for piracy, same way how Xbox 360 runs games off hard drive, but I could be wrong!

He can try.

FWIW I ripped all my own games for DML, so I don't care about piracy. But the challenge of getting it working with Dolphin and then figuring out how the games are encrypted sounds exciting.

Ohnoes, if I can't compete I will lose all my customers and go out of business! Oh wait...

You've been touting for attention for months, why would you do that if you don't care?

My favourite bit is where you demand copies of games if people want them fixed.

"I don't plan to ask for any donations, although at some point if there's a particular game that someone wants fixed I might have to insist they provide it or at least the means for me to get it; I'm not going to fork out for a copy of MGS from my own pocket, for example."
Thats a very high horse you're sitting on.

an thats were xbox sucks in my book,(well one of reasons). cause if i have to still put the game disc in to load off my harddrive. i might as well just play the disc.
my thought is you rip the disc with devolution. it checks the disc for n codes. an downloads that with the disc.(not scrubbing or what ever, to bypass the ap protection) that way you don't need the disc like sh**box.
still going way off into the prairie, here. this is dios/mios speculation thread. we should be talking about this in the devolution thread.

Because that's totally worse than demanding money (or "donations") in return for the release of open source software.

Not wanting to spend extra money on your program is fine, but demanding money for it's release (when it's under GPL) is not.

Why on earth should he buy a game if he doesn't want to play it? It makes perfect sense that if someone wants a game fixed, they should provide a copy for him. I see no other reasonable solution for getting those games fixed. He can't magically fix them without inspecting the game and figuring out why it doesn't work. I'm sure if someone can explain to him exactly why a particular game doesn't work, and how to implement a fix without messing up any of the rest of his code, he will happily implement said fix. Otherwise, the only way is for him to have a copy of the game, which will only happen if someone gets him a copy, because he isn't going to buy one himself unless he actually wants to play the game.

Actually, it is fine. Donations are meant for the effort put in coding an app, regardless of its licensing.
I know it's legal, but at times crediar has admitted to already having finished the coding, but won't release it until donations are made. It's just sleazy IMO.

If he is all about money he could as well have set up a site and sell subscriptions for his apps. 50€ per year (plus 19%VAT for european customers) for access to all of his apps including forum and ticket support.
I didn't say he was All about money, but how would that be legal anyway?
