Oh god, this has become a war ground for SD vs USB? How is this even a debate? If both can load games with the same performance, then if your SD is large enough to suit your needs then just use it. I only have a small class 10 and my other cards are all too slow/small to be worth using for DML, so I'm quite glad that gc USB loading is finally on the horizan. Still I don't see why you're all bickering at someone just because they prefer the alternate method of loading.
Anyhow, the only major improvements I can think of that haven't been tackled are audio streaming and 2 disc games, I'm hoping the last of those gets figured out someday so I can go back to MGS. Still, the improvements on the DM scene have been amazing and have allowed me to keep my broken wii on further life support, so I'm amazed and grateful that it's gotten as far as it has.

I hope [member='wiismodrome'] doesn't get annoyed with me pulling out the diagram all the time he was cool enough to post in the devolution speculation thread but it seemed relevant
Here's an overview of the Wii hardware architecture:

Since the question about using Classic Controllers is a question of whether or not there is enough space to handle USB and Bluetooth at the same time, I was remembering seeing a complaint by someone somewhere that their GC games couldn't use the WiFi as the GC broadband adapter.

Seeing here that WiFi (like the SD) is not connected to USB in any way It occurred to me that it would not be possible to have two options.
1. Dios Mios with USB loading support.
OR
2. Dios Mios Lite with ADDED broadband adapter emulation support.

That way it would be USB handling code OR having WiFi handling and Broadband adapter emulation code (assuming there's no way to fit both at one time)
What would be really nice, of course, is if there were somehow space for both of those AND the Classic Controller support as well but it doesn't look like that's possible at the moment.

EDIT : Whether it's a good or a bad thing something like that would give you a little more use for the huge SD cards that a lot of us bought to use with DML, being able to put just broadband compatible games on the SD and the rest on USB. It would also be all the more reason why to keep the two GoogleCode pages going.

Despite mentioning an idea that would make SD cards needed, I'm glad the whole SD vs. USB flame war died down a few days ago and they didn't have to make a separate thread for it like they did in the devolution thread.

EDIT 2 : Maybe I'm getting a little carried away with this idea but it could always be made to have both USB and WiFi code on NAND but have only the necessary one loaded into memory when it starts up to avoid having to choose which WAD to have installed as your MIOS. Both is better.

This is indeed great news, can't wait for Crediar to release this, then please fix Sonic Gems Collection to not use disks, fix games with audio streaming issues, and games with two disks, that's all I'm asking for, I don't care if the other issues aren't fixed yet "PSO, Triforce, NMM, NMGCC

here's hoping Creadiar will release this without needing to format the HDD to 64KB Cluster because I don't wanna format my HDD again!
Yeah, I hope USB loading by itself is enough to give it the speed so it's not needed.
P.S. Going through these pages I read some comments about Devolution, I thought that project got canceled, whatever happened to it? :O
No, not cancelled. There's a another thread for it now but last I heard [member='tueidj'] got a little sick and had to delay work on it so a little delayed but not cancelled.

oh then I'll keep an eye on both then, if possible maybe one Wii can install both DM/DML and Devolution, this way I can stick with DML for use with my GC controller and memory cards "no more motion shit" and use Devolution for games with issues!

When compiliing DML with -Os(optimised for small size) there are 10KB left, 10572 bytes to be exact.
Don't expect any CC support or BBA emulation to fit into 10KB lol.

DM might need even MORE space leaving even less space.

Also DM's USB support has nothing in common with wiimote support. The bluetooth adapter is a USB device connected to its own dedicated OHCI device while DM only knows how to talk to the EHCI device.

It will be cracked in no time. Especially if it leaves the running IOS intact.
Hopefully you people won't be douche bags, but will instead respect his work.

If people crack the APs in commercial games (or are douchebags who disrespect the developers' work, like you would put it), what gives you the impression that they wouldn't try to crack Devolution's AP?

I'm not too worried about CC support.
If you have a new Wii with no GC ports, send it to DeadlyFoez to have them added on for you at a small price lol.
If you have no GC controllers, buy them off amazon or ebay.

Try playing a GC 2d fighting game or a retro compilation like the Sonic and Mega Man collections. I love the GC controller, but it's a bitch for 2d games.

I will prefer DM because I copied all my retail gc games and I sold most of them. So I can't use Devolution for all games, can I ?
You cannot say with any degree of certainty what you will prefer until you have experienced both. That's like me saying I will prefer 2014 to 2020, right now in 2012. It doesn't make sense at all. Maybe you will prefer DM. Maybe you won't. You cannot say "I will prefer..." without having tried either. You don't know how the AP will be implemented in Devolution.

Obviously, she MAY say she WILL as it seems almost CERTAIN that the SPECS meet her requirements i.e. the ability to load games from an usb device without using the original discs which she sold.

While tueidj and I don't get along, I respect him greatly as a developer, even more than I do Nintendo. In addition, if someone breaks the AP on Devolution, I doubt he will continue to work on it, although I can't speak for him. The AP will make it harder for me because the majority of my GC discs are now scratched to the point where they freeze or won't launch, but I understand him not wanting it to be a warez loader.

I understand this too, but my biggest problem with such a system is that it negates the main reason I'd want it. The Wii i would want a GC USB loader for is the one that's lacking a functional DVD drive. I'm sure many others would also want it for the same reason. Dead drives are pretty common nowadays, especially on older units...and apart from GC and ripping games, you can do almost everything without a drive.

Because of that, I'll have to use DM if/when it comes out, or maybe use DML (trying to avoid this since I need to buy a bigger SD, and my HDD already has plenty of space...)

I do seem to remember [member='tueidj'] saying something about this being for this benefiting those who had bad drives or those with new Wii's that spit out the GC disks so I kinda think having scratched disks won't actually cause [member='JoostinOnline'] that much trouble since he does actually have the original disks.

I think he also mentioned something about an external USB DVD drive actually being able to recognize the validity of a retail disk even if it wasn't able to actually rip the disk.

I speculate that Devolutions AP will have an option of encrypting and signing an existing ISO image for use with Devolution as long as it can verify the presence of an original retail disk be that through the internal drive, a USB drive or (if he were to put a LOT of work into it) an EXI-IDE adapter.

Edit : heh, wait, I'm speculating about the wrong app for this thread. :shy:

Unfortunately he is wasting time trying to prevent piracy of games that aren't commerically viable and can already be pirated.
If Devolution ever gets released then it's unlikely it will be able to compete with dios mios.
