What is Frontier Gate Boost+?​

A "one-of-a-kind" multiplayer JRPG, mixing up the Monster Hunter formula and turn-based RPGs. If Final Fantasy and Monster Hunter were fused together, this would be the result. Using a dynamic AP (Action Points) system to let you strategize within turns to chain your attacks along with your Partner, allowing you to create combos to destroy your opponents.

Encompassing 14 Partner characters, each with their own Storyline and Events to follow as you grow closer to them, as well as 12 types of weapons for you to choose from.
You can tag along with two more people to clear quests together! Unlike other early Monster Hunter-like games, Frontier Gate allows free roam for the entire hub map in multiplayer, with the addition of Hot Springs where you can chat with friends.

The story brings us to the Frontier, a new continent discovered by two legendary heroes. Their days are long gone, but their legacy within the Pioneers' Guild is not forgotten. People flocked here following the great discovery of this new world, leading nations to form an Alliance and settle in a shared central hub known as Ortus (commonly referred to as Base).
Their objective? Explore and conquer this new continent with the help of Pioneers, explorers willing to put their lives at risk to help civilization expand its reach.

The reasons why you've come to the new world are something only you know, but as the Frontier holds infinite possibilities, the same can be said for your destiny.

About this Project​

Frontier Gate Boost+ is a game largely unknown due to never being released outside Japan. However, I've found it very interesting with its completely original take on the Monster Hunter formula. I've always wanted a Turn-Based multiplayer RPG, so the mixture of elements made it appealing enough for me to begin this project, with the intention of localizing it to a western audience from the ground up.
I'm aware that there's some sort of english patch fully done via MTL, but this project will be manually done, as my intention is to carefully adapt the japanese texts as fluently as possible to english. I'm doing this project with two more members, so we will slowly be making progress until it's fully translated.

As of (02/17/2026), the progress is as follows (what doesn't show up here probably isn't translated at all). Keep in mind that this is a rough estimate and doesn't include translated dialogue nor Partners-related text so far:

What's Next?​

I'll use this post to give you guys updates to the project as me and my team move forward. Dialogue will be translated at its own pace, and so far, the entire introduction is fully translated. We'll probably start with the NPCs dialogue around the base and slowly but surely move on to each Partner accordingly, as this game really likes delving into each character.

Progress Report (01-22)

Every Monster Name has been translated and/or localized where it was needed!
I've been working on this for several days so far before making the previous post, so I'm glad to announce it's finally done.
It's not final and will need a future revision to make some names more professional sounding.
There are 200 unique enemies in this game and here are some sneak peeks of them.

This game LOVES mythological names for the monsters. There are a dozen of them, even demon ones. I've made sure that every name corresponds to the creature the katakana was referring to (or alluding to) and tried keeping consistency between the naming convention. When I was unable to, I got a little creative with their adaptation.
Some names are subject to change whenever they get revised, as always.
 

Progress Report (01/27 - Spanish Translation)

After SEVERAL days of hard work and reverse-engineering the game, I can proudly state that I was able to add a new font to the game. This is exclusively reserved for the spanish translation! We will be doing one in the future. Every special character that would've been needed was added, so the only remaining thing would be setting aside some time to progress on it, later on, of course.

Progress Report (02/01) - A Stroll Around the Base: NPCs Showcase

A small showcase for the ongoing NPCs translation! There are some details here and there that I will polish, since this hasn't been proofread yet (it's as raw as it gets).
I've been having a hard time figuring out if I should keep the japanese brackets or not. I didn't like the look of single quotes, but the engine doesn't allow for double quotes either. I'll probably use yellow text to replace it instead, as I did in most dialogues so far.
NPCs names aren't there yet, so I'll probably start focusing on that later. While I find it "okay" to translate UI stuff, most of my enjoyment of translating the game comes from adapting dialogue...

While a bit slower, I like translating what I see on screen. I play the game, run around and see what texts are left untranslated. Gives me context as to who I'm talking to and I feel it's a bit more organized than doing it with no context whatsoever.
Besides the NPCs, all the Weapon Effects have been localized + their descriptions.

Frontier Gate Boost+ OPENING MOVIE | ENG SUB

I took some time to extract the movie from the game files and translate it. Credits to Romatsuri for adding the subtitles! This will be the OP you will see when opening the game. A second version will be made to add the team to the credits in the first few seconds, but for now, enjoy!

 
Finally, I've waited so long to see this happen. I've always been interested in playing it, but until now I haven't been able to because of the existing "translation" bugs and the language being a barrier for me. You're basically making a dream come true for me. Keep up the good work, you deserve congratulations. :yaypsp:

Progress Report (02/09) - Quest Names & Objectives, Youtube Channel!​

We've been making some advances with the quest names and their objectives these past few days. As a preview...

There are obviously way, way more! It was fun localizing most of these titles and I got to be creative with many. Biggest obstacle was (well, is) keeping pun names, as in "A Flimsy Whimsy Request". Original japanese title was a pun two similar sounding words: "つたないツタが欲しい" (Tsutanai Tsuta ga Hoshii).
For example, a literal translation would be something akin to "I Want a Low-Quality Ivy", so I spent some time coming up with a more accurate localization (the client really wants the ivy because of a whim).
Other examples are "Punkin Munchkin Punkoo!", something original I came up with to keep some bland names more unique to read. There's also "A Cut Above the Rest", which was quite difficult as well... It used a japanese idiom related with a flower so unique it's out of reach (and the quest itself is about gathering flowers). I'll let you imagine how the localized name relates to the original meaning.
Despite all of this, I'm still at... 40% progress here? There are a lot of quests. The objectives aren't the issue per-se but the fact that there are so many quest names.

In other news, every skill is now also translated! Here are some of them:

But it's a very raw translation and a lot of them need a revision to shorten them. The skill descriptions are still pending, and I'll probably take a look at the skill names again once I have the descriptions fully done too.

And finally... I've uploaded the Opening Movie to my Youtube Channel. I'll probably be uploading videos there in the future of the development progress, so feel free to support the videos we upload of the project!

Do you have a release date for a demo of your project so we can test it out, my friend?
No ETA yet, but probably once we finish translating what I consider top priority for an early demo to come out.

I'd say those are the most important ones. I could be optimistic and say that a demo will surely have come out already by the time we reach June, so there's that

Quests Almost Done, Armor Translations

To keep up with the weekly updates, I'll be reporting what's been done last week. Around 80% is done regarding quests! Which means I can share a video of the progress. Don't watch it if you don't want to spoil yourself the quests (for any reason). As a side note, these aren't ALL the quests, since lots are story-related that can only be done once.



Like the titles so far? They're bound to be revised to improve them, but overall I'm satisfied with the majority. I obviously reached a point where I was like "Some of these repeat 10 times, can't give all of them new names" so I started repeating some patterns.
Remaining ones are the Alternate Dimension category (there are only 4 of those quests) and the Cryptid quests.
As a fun fact, Cryptids are named UMA in Japanese (these ones, at least). Stands for "Unidentified Mysterious Animal". Most accurate localization was Cryptids, since that's what makes most sense.

I've been spending a few days trying to pin-point the cause of unavoidable BSOD crashes on my end. The game crashes in a certain point everytime: do the first two quests in a row -> go to the quest menu -> change tabs between advanced quests/master quests and BSOD.
Turns out it may have to do with the CPK repacker tool moving some important bytes when creating a new BIN file with the translation (maybe due to its version...? Since the game uses a way older CPK signature). At least, that's what seems to be the case.
If I extract the original BIN files without any translation and repack them as is, the game crashes in the same spot, so that leads me to believe it has to do with the tool itself.
I have a few months ahead to figure that out and fix it, luckily. Though, if there's anyone familiar with CPK files and wants to help me find out the root cause, I'd be happy if they could lend me a hand with this.

In other news, I've begun translating a few armor names while the rest of the team takes care of other parts. Focusing on the same part (quests) over and over again tends to tire myself out.
Just a few names in and it's already its own obstacle with the character limit... But ah, I'll see how I can handle it.

I recently helped a friend translate a game into Spanish, and I must say that it was a very time-consuming task, even though we were only translating a small game, so I can't imagine how difficult and overwhelming it must be to translate a JRPG.

Anyway, as someone who's helping out another FGB+ project but with a different direction, I got a few concerns.
  • Will you address and fix the prevalent issues that are plaguing existing English Patched copies of the game, which uses the same public tool? One example is the version 1.01 update, which fixes a lot of bugs, will not apply and ever show up on the title screen. And thus, certain patches such as the 60FPS code doesn't work.
  • Another prevalent issue I've seen is that the Partner names on the bottom left of the screen, whether on fields or inside battles, is always in Japanese.
That'll be all.

Hello! My respects for also taking on a translation project, as it's really dense in content. Whether you decide that it's up to you, we can always collaborate if it comes down to that.
Regarding the rest... I've not been doing it alone, after all. I'm slowing down a bit not to get burned out, but we're still advancing.
To answer your questions:
  • It's compatible with update 1.01. It's also fairly simply to update, but I gotta decrypt the EBOOT.BIN first for the texts to actually show up correctly. Haven't really tested that out much yet, so I'll test it out more later once I need to release a patch.
  • I can proudly say that yes, I've found a way to fix it. After doing a bit of trickery, reverse-engineering and analyzing the EBOOT.BIN, I was able to change the hard-coded memory addresses to custom ones of mine, allowing me to use any length for the names.

Sure! Once we finish some of the remaining stuff, we will be posting an early patch! I'll probably try to include a bit of the story so to not get lost and actually get to understand what's going on with the Partners and their events.
 
I'm looking forward to this so much! There's a few Japanese-only PSP games that I've been wanting to play.
- Frontier Gate Boost + v1.1 (partial slop translation of v1.0 was released, I'm really looking forward to the proper translation of the expanded/updated version)
- Final Fantasy Type 0 (translated by SkyCloud, really good game)
- Monster Hunter Portable 3rd (translated by Team Maverick One, one of my top 5 PSP games)
- Monster Hunter Poka Airu Mura/Felyne Village (3DS version translated, PSP version untranslated)

Really happy to see you doing this game some justice! Thank you so much! I had this on my radar for something I wanted to play when the previous translation was done in AI. But i will hold out until you complete your work so i can experience the game in a better translation with someones hard work put in that i can appreciate :)
