Alright. So basically, I starting receiving emails saying that my XBL Gold subscription account needed an update to avoid an interruption in the service. This confused me at first, as I thought I had disabled automatic renewal for my account anyway, since I didn't want to be charged every year for a service I hardly use anymore. So I look online, and I find out that my debit card used for my account was the one I had cancelled back when the PSN got hacked, for fear of my account being compromised, and I had never changed it so the Gold subscription couldn't be paid for. Well, I figured that since I didn't want Gold, I could just cancel it and continue life as usual with Silver. So I called up Microsoft support, and they told me that "they can't cancel the account because it has already been billed to me, and the service has been activated."

Now, this doesn't quite make sense. I told them that I don't want a Gold subscription anymore, and I haven't even been on my Xbox since the account was renewed last month anyway. Yet, they tell me that they can't cancel a service that I don't want, and haven't even paid for, due to my card being cancelled. What in the flying fuck is preventing them from downgrading or cancelling my account, especially if it's going to be interrupted anyway? They're basically forcing me to pay for a service that I DON'T want. It also doesn't make any sense that my account would still be reactivated for Gold even when there currently isn't a way for me to be charged, as the card set up with it's expired. They have none of, nor are currently able to get, my money for this subscription, which again I told them I DO NOT WANT. They're basically trying to lock me into the service and have me keep paying for it.

So I'm gonna call them up again in a couple days (and possibly raise hell), and if my Gold subscription isn't terminated..... Well, thanks for the free yearly online (while it lasts).

If your card is cancelled and they can't get the money from you then why are you stressing about It? Do you have a great credit rating or something and that has you worried? If that's the case, just file a dispute on your credit report, you get a free one each year. If the card was still active and they where able to charge you, same thing kinda, call your card/bank and file a dispute. Way easier then having to deal with the people that took/want the money and you won't have to wait on hold for an hour. They used to allow people to turn off automatic renewal online but now the only way you can is to call them. I don't see how It is legal for them to be able to get away with this, could never turn auto renewal off from the console either. Then again, what do you expect from Microsoft, the guy that started It is the same lowlife that funds Monsanto that poisons our seed and food supply.

My dad's credit card expired while auto renewal was on, and I've been playing Xbox Live for free for over a year now. Just leave it be.

Knowing Microsoft, they might keep trying to make me pay for it, which isn't gonna happen, and I don't need more notification/warning emails about it. I'm not "stressed" per se, more like pissed off that they refuse to do something so simple.

But whatever. Free Live is free Live.

Why would you bother with Microsoft? Call your credit card company and get your refund directly then go and turn auto renewal off.

I used to change my account each month for the free month new user offer, I did that for about two years to get free gold because I didn't buy any dlc and as for gamerscore, (whatever). It was also nice having a fresh new gamertag each month. I guess they finally limited the amount of times you could do It, I think It's down to five times per console now or so.

They did the exact same thing to me also...they ended up saying they would ban my account if I didn't pay.i argued for about an hour(I'm pretty persuasive) and they still said they didnt care and were gunna charge me or ban me.i ended up paying them, for an extra month even though I had a years card at home.basicly if you don't care about ever getting online again just don't pay them cause they will ban it from online but still can be used offline.

in short:
dont give your credit card information to MS
there is plenty of cheaper alternatives out there (live and point cards)

My dad's credit card expired while auto renewal was on, and I've been playing Xbox Live for free for over a year now. Just leave it be.
the credit card number still remains the same, just a new card is issued after it expires, so your dad is most likely still paying for it

This usually isn't the case. When my card expires, I'm given a brand new set of numbers with a new security code.

Not to mention they can't process the card if the expiration date is wrong.

Something similar was about to happen to me. 1 month prior to my yearly subscription was up (I used to have autorenewal on with my debit card) I called them up asking not to auto renew. They were very hesitant to do this, I don't know why. Eventually they disabled it and I've been buying prepaid 12 month live membership cards to avoid future hassle.

Also @[member='Tehskull'] you might end up owing Microsoft money in the near future. I have a friend who was going through the same thing you were about free live but eventually they emailed him saying he owes them the amount of $59.99 for the year he got live and wasn't able to charge his old card. Until then, they kept disconnecting him off live.

Why is it Microsoft is till the only one who charges the players to play online? I know Ps3 has Psn+ or something, but that's only extra. Online gaming really should be free.
