Originally, I was making Pikmin 3 to be launched on the Wii platform. Because the Wii U is capable of HD quality pictures, and will be accompanied by the subscreen on your hand. I thought that I would be able to make a Pikmin that was closer to my ideal. I am now actually enjoying myself, working on the game.

This is great news. If he's enjoying working on it, that probably means it's coming along to his full satisfaction. And as much as I always stress the relative unimportance of graphics in a game, Pikmin deserves all the polygons it can get. Can't wait.

Yes! I can't wait to commit plant-people genocide once again!

...What?

But no, seriously, I am completely looking forward to this.

I hate that excuse "graphics doesn't make gameplay".

That is absolutely true, but that doesn't mean all of their systems HAVE to have lower quality graphics than the current competitors just to prove that point.
They could have made the same exact games that they made on the Wii, but with better power. They would still be good games with or without "OMG1080HD"

It's just pointless to exclude it, that's all. Leave it up to the game developers to utilize it or not. Don't restrict them.

on topic, I am happy they're bringing back Pikmin. Hopefully there's a 3DS version but hey, Wii U is cool too.

>The Wii should have been 1080p in the first place
Yes and then the Wii would have costed Five Hundred and Ninety-Nine U.S. Dollahs and nobody would have bought it.

You realize that the PS3 and 360 don't even do 1080p for games, and some even run at sub 720p? Making this sort of graphical quality on a console actually wasn't possible five years ago.

Edit: About the 3DS version... it's important to consider what a technological marvel Pikmin was. 100 Pikmin, plus Olimar and enemies. That's a huge amount of sprites (or whatever you call them when they're in 3D). The 3DS might not even be up to that

It's nice that he's enjoying it and all, but I've been waiting for this game for way too long. One of the reasons I got a Wii was because I thoroughly enjoyed the first 2 Pikmins, and I assumed Pikmin 3 would eventually be released on it, and it just never came. I'm not buying a new console for it. A day several years late, a buck short.

yay, I love pikimn!
(even if I never finished the first games yet).

I'm curious to see the new features with the WiiU controller.
Yeah I like the pikmin games but I never finished them either...I got bored.
Not a big seller for the WiiU for me, I guess.
