It’s been brought to my attention that the latest edition of the Official Nintendo Magazine has a in-depth feature titled ’A Brief History Of Retro Studios’. Towards the end of the feature they move onto what they think the studio behind the Metroid Prime games and Donkey Kong Country Returns are working on next, ending with these two sentences…

“While some suggest this new project is likely to be a return to the Metroid franchise, we’d love to see another Nintendo hero get the retro stamp of excellence. After all, having rolled out the barrels for Donkey Kong, perhaps it’s time Retro pulled off a barrel roll of a different kind.”

Could the Official Nintendo Magazine be privy to something we don’t know about? We have absolutely no clue as to what Retro Studios are working on next, but what we can all guess it’s a Wii U title. What better way to launch the Wii U with a brand new Star Fox title developed by Retro Studios?

Retro seems to have a knack for breathing life into ailing franchises, so this sounds like it would be smart move on Nintendo's part.

If they're not in vehicles the entire time, I hope they don't bother making it.

I kinda want someone to make another Donkey Kong 64 style game.
Jesus christ was that an awesome game in every regard.

The sad thing is I have that magazine and I never noticed that before. I hope it's true, but preferably for 3DS. It's a better suited system, surely? Starfox works best in short bursts which the 3DS excels at.

Just FYI, if anyone from Retro or any other studio looking to work on a new Starfox game is lookng to skip a few chapters, I got a completed script and advanced concept portfolio you can have to save time, at the right price of course :P Just throwin' the idea out there...

Retro said awhile back that they were working on another Nintendo IP. I remember after they said this, everyone started thinking they were gonna do the next Zelda game.

Honestly, I think Star Fox is bit more believable.

Wasn't the rumour that Fox's fate was dependant on sales figures for Starfox 64 3D? It seems to sell pretty well, so maybe Nintendo have realised we still have time for the barrel-rolling little fuzzball. Gimme a new adventure on 3DS, with new levels (some great ideas would be a revisit to the Sector X from Starwing with all the space creatures, that'd look SWEET in 3D.) and the same branching path style as Lylat Wars, and we got a deal. Basically take a good long look at a Starfox 64 3D cartridge and think 'more of this. no gimmicky crap.'
