Hacking Image types the Wii can display in homebrew apps?

I'm curious about the file types the Wii can display. Anyone know what types of images can be viewed? Is it solely PNG images? It seems most homebrew uses PNG images only. I'm wondering is it possible to add support for GIF or JPG?

Any answers are appreciated.

You mean as icons? Just png. If you want to view pictures from within an app, use WiiMC or WiiXplorer.

Btw, jpg sucks. Everytime you copy or save it, the quality drops quite a bit. It also doesn't support transparency. Gif doesn't have those problems and it can display animations, but the quality is limited. Unless you want an animation, use png.

thats what im getting to...animations. would be cool to have animated disc covers in usb loaders. it seems like all the loaders use only png images. im not really concerned with jpg.

gif covers would be cool i think.

1) Then they wouldn't be the real covers.
2) Then the quality would suck (no HQ covers)
3) I doubt you would find anybody to make them.

Well that could be retrieved directly from the game itself (just like the music that plays in Cfg), so I imagine it would be possible to do that. It's way beyond me though.

I've been meaning to look at this for a while. It might be a bit overkill for WBM, but it would be a good start for implementing it in a loader..
