I haven't tried it out this thingy. But I have a few questions. 1. Installing this, will it makes me be able to play Skyward Sword? I downloaded the game but it won't work. It just takes me back to Wii Menu. 2. I seriously don't even understand how to download this thing nor how to install it.. I don't even know what a cios is. I need a pretty noob-ish explanation!

1st WM+ game?

You can treat IOS or cIOS as a set of drivers or some kind of operating system, only one IOS/cIOS is running at any time and at that time, all others don't matter at all. You need a cIOS + a loader to run backup games, so if you are able to run backups, you have at least one cIOS installed already.

Mind me sounding a bit noobish, despite being modded since June, but under which IOS should this be installed in?
i agree, i used to be wayyy up to date with al this softmodding/ hacking scene but i havent been here for about a year. I dont understand the reasoning behind being able to install the cIOS with different base IOS...

IOS247[37] (rev 21006, Info: d2x-v6): Trucha Bug, NAND Access, USB 2.0
IOS248[56] (rev 21006, Info: d2x-v6): Trucha Bug, NAND Access, USB 2.0
IOS249[38] (rev 21006, Info: d2x-v6): Trucha Bug, ES Identify, NAND Access
IOS250[57] (rev 21006, Info: d2x-v6): Trucha Bug, NAND Access, USB 2.0

the difference i see here is the base IOS used, but what is the advantage of having all these cIOS under different bases? is it just that some backup games have to be loaded using certain IOS or what?

i hate leaving the scene for ages i get so far behind haha, now i dont know anything about recent cIOS, backup loaders, nand emulation, but i'm lurking and trying to catch up hahaha

base 56 and 57 offer faster load times
base 56 works for almost all games (including games like guitar hero that used to require base 37 cIOS, i.e. cIOS223)
base 57 works for the other games that don't work with base 56 (ie. call of duty black ops)

if those bases don't recognize your harddrive (which is rare and prolly means your using an uncommon HDD), other bases may succeed where they failed (ie. base 58)

some bases may work better for loading wiiware games off mightly channels. For example if one of your wiiware games is supposed to use IOS53, and a cIOS with base 56 doesn't work, a cIOS with base 53 might work.

i've just read up on the latest cIOS' and fixes they make and all the new utitlities that have been released (except nand emulaton) ETC, i must say, the wii hacking scene has made a massive evolution since the twilight hack. i was here till around the release of Priiloader 0.29 and then not much after that.

i'm so impressed with every single person that has contributed to the development of all these amazing programs. what amazes me the most is all of your understanding about coding, how to create programs specificly to work on the wii and such, it's incredible!

absolute genius'! i want to extend my undying gratitude to what you have all achieved and hope you continue to do what you do in the manner you are doing it!

i'm very impressed with the Custom menus too, last time i tried one of these it was a health and safety screen mod :P and there was some kind of matrix theme that i thought was cool even though i'm not a fan of the matrix, it was just the customisation i liked hahaha

anyway, thank you all again!

As far as i know d2x v7 is not out yet, but as soon as davebaol releases it, it will be on the first page of this topic.
It's not, but a lot of people are downloading an alpha version (it's not supposed to be available to anybody but testers) because they are stupid and think newer = better. Stick with what is tested.

Feature request.

It would be very nice for d2x to read sector from hdd which resides on cylinder near landing zone for heads just before switching console off.
Now every time I shut down wii there is "click" sound.
Yes I understand that is perfectly normal behaviour (auto park heads) of hdd when power is cut down.
But it might be very nice to help hdd a little and move heads closer to their park position.

Thank you.

ps.
I'm guessing that land zone is after last cylinder. So reading last sector should be efficient.

you are better off tracking the google code for updates, i got 2.1 from the first post while 3.1's been available since september.

I think he is talking about the installer and not the CIOS ...

The installer from here was 2.1

the Gcode page lists the newest installer.

Same thing happens to my HDD too! :(
It would be great if davebaol could implement a small fix to prevent this! ;)

I guess Davebaol had not much time updating the first page...he used to do it immediately..

indeed, last edit was June, so yeah, 2.1 is the release linked to from the first post.

There isn't much you can do, it's going to make a noise to unload the head. Seeking across the disk before will still make the same noise that it does when the heads are unloaded.

I find the sound of the motor spinning down louder than the head unloading anyway.

There must be something different in following picture.
When I use same disc with linux based pc there is no click sound at all under disconnection.
No special magic involved, just regular umount before unplug.

The difference is the placement of the head prior to power loss, if its closer to the inner track, the head has to fling quickly back to the outside edge of the drive in order to lock itself securely for power down
if closer to the outside... well, you get the idea.
