The mario galaxy of mario kart? Interesting!

This has pretty much convinced me of a day 1 purchase (not that it was really in doubt)

To facilitate the attitude shift, Mario Kart 7 has shorn the field from 12 down to eight, a change which impacts on the flow of the races in two substantial ways. Firstly, with a third of the pack out of commission there are noticeably less lightning bolt/star/blue shell shenanigans, meaning the actual racing itself gets some much needed breathing space.

Every new Mario Kart is said to be the best. I just figure, like any Mario Kart, this will be good for plenty of multiplayer time for those that enjoy that. Otherwise, everybody else will burn out on the grand prix races once they have beaten them all on 150CC Mirror (assuming that is in there), will set the game down, and periodically pick it up for some racing fun. I mean, Mario Kart is one of those tried and true formulas. Not much has to be done but the introduction of some new tracks, as well as some new kart designs to keep the ball rolling.

I'm actually a little disappointed they cut down the racer number. The items were never that bad, and unless the item odds are any different, you'll still get pegged with blue shells at the worst time by that CPU lagging a lap and a half behind. The number of racers made the more difficult race levels all the more exciting really. Mario Kart is an arcade racer, and the number of items being thrown around helped to further establish that. I don't play Mario Kart to try to get a gentle, racing experience. I play it to go around the track, praying I don't get slammed by a blue shell, or hit one of my myriad of bananas on the screen.

Regardless, like I said, the game will be incredibly fun. It's damn hard to mess up Mario Kart.

Edit: Curse you all for analyzing that first statement closely.

Actually Double Dash & MK Wii had some mixed reviews.

I just hope its better than MK Wii, that game felt like a very dry vanilla Mario Kart for me. Its was as if Nintendo was going through the motions when they made it.

12 racers were far too excessive, in my eyes. Cutting the total number back down to the original 8 was a wise move--the game won't lose out on its chaotic and enjoyable nature; it will just be far less frustrating to play--and the fact that Nintendo managed to include 8 players online is another amazing feature that can't be missed.

Despite not having played it yet, I can agree with CVG that this is gonna be the best game in the series judging from what's been shown. :)

I just hope they've gotten rid of that fucking awful 'cloud' pickup that is neither use nor ornament and let you keep weapons if you get struck instead of losing them like in the last few games, made it feel like you were being penalized twice.

I still need to play it before I buy it though, the days of Mario Kart being a day 1 purchase are over for me as every version since Mario Kart Advance has left me disappointed in someway :(

Hmm... not really sure what to say about the downsizing of grand prix... did the DS version not support 8 player online? If it didn't, then I guess it makes sense, cutting down on the max racers to support more online.

Besides, it probably doesn't look like it, but MK7 looks like it'll need all the 3DS' muscle (or what little it has, as some would argue) to pump out 60FPS of 8player online mayhem.

Still, 12 racers all having a go at each other was pretty damn fun, but in the end it's definitely just a few front runners vying for the top spot, with the rest just throwing anything they can to spoil their fun.

What do you mean by downsizing of grand prix?

The DS version only supported 4 player online, that's a good boost to 8 player online. Online sure be much fun now compared to the DS version.

I'm glad they got rid of the Wii gimmicks like the raincloud, mega mushroom and the pow block!

Ba dum tish?

But really, I'm a big believer that, in general, the sequel beats the predecessor. This isn't all the time but most of the time it does. So I guess this is unsurprising.

I'm also not really seeing this as news, I'll go move this to the 3DS section.

I hated the cloud and the mega mushroom in the wii version altho i didnt mind the pow block but all 3 have been removed for MK7 and replaced with 2 really cool new weapons, Not sold on the "lucky 7" pickup tho, it sounds a bit OTT imo but we'll see

Only 6days for me to wait to play it tho :D
