Just as the title says, r4i gold official site released the news that r4i gold can work on the new 3DS firmware V2.2.0-4. And also released a video.

R4i Gold Plus from www.r4ids.com was good out that gate as well. No update was needed. Their firmware supported Big-N's update to 2.2.0-4 automatically.

In Charlene's defense, there is no update file to increase compatibility with 2.2.0-4 Their website, www.r4ids.cn, says their firmware is compatible. I really don't think they would lie, and then post a fake video on youtube showing that it runs.

Update---That video is not for the 2.2.0-4 firmware for USA. The r4ids.cn team needs to release a firmware update for their r4i gold 3ds card to boot on 2.2.0-4 USA firmware as of right now it WILL NOT. The r4ids.cn team needs to correct their website ASAP!!

Hmmm...yes. I just had a thought: Maybe the card shown in the video is the 3DS version and hence it has a different icon. I have the non-3DS version. I'll probably have to wait for an update for it.

Taking the risk to waste one faked game is probably not a good idea as the november update is still not released.
The 2.2.0-4 update is the one embedded in super mario 3D land not the online version.

I just realized after the update, on the Super Mario 3D Land game that I bought, that the card in the successful r4ids.com r4ids.cn video is the non 3DS version of the two cards they sell. Guess what? I have their newest iteration of that card, the R4i Gold 3DS and it does not boot on Nintendo's 2.2.0-4 firmware. Oh, and bowser, I didn't realize this, but if your R4i Gold 3DS is fully updated it is not a SpongeBob icon it's a Dorasu icon. I got my card from Lightake and I guess they don't update before shipping, or because the card says it supports 1.4.3 out the box, so why should they bother. But if you run the latest firmware 1.4.3 update the icon changes to Dorasu (Acekard 2i icon). I hope the r4i gold 3ds team is seeing that they need to update the R4i Gold 3DS version of their flash card.

Edit: Your card will be SpongeBob when you get it from the shop but if you want you can run the 1.4.3 firmware update from the r4ids.cn website and the icon changes to Dorasu EITHER way the card is and will be compatible with 1.4.3 firmware. Sorry for the confusion.

jimmymunoz is talking about the AceKard clone R4i Gold from www.r4ids.com (which does not work on 3DS 2.2.0-4) whereas the original poster was on about the R4i-Gold cart from www.r4ids.cn which is an original R4 clone (which does work on 2.2.0-4) so it depends on which R4i Gold cart you have as to what you do.

I was talking about the r4i gold 3ds from www.r4ids.cn I can't believe that the www.r4ids.cn website has it posted on the official website that their card is compatible with 2.2.0-4 USA. In fact it's not. I have emailed them twice to let them know and I have never received a response! A bunch of other people told them their card does not work on the new 2.2.0-4 firmware. If you go to Youtube and check out the video you will see the r4iteam (the community name of the video posted that shows the r4i gold 3ds booting up on the 2.2.0-4 chinese firmware) says that only their newest flash card bought after October 31st, 2011 will boot up on 2.2.0-4 USA firmware. The part that angers me is that this is not pointed out of the official website. I thought they were better than that. As far as I'm concerned they're lying to people

Yes, you need to update first but not for 1.4.3 You need to wait for the r4ids.cn team to release a firmware update for 2.2.0-4 I hope this clears up some confusion that the r4ids.cn team has created all on their own.
