Before Patching:
Size: 67,108,864 bytes (64.0 MB)
CRC32: F3A9C1CD
Game ID: CYJJ 4B74EEEB

CRC32: 0B24E0CA
Game ID: CYJJ 20FCBF0F
What are these "sealed slates?"
In addition to the story-related Behemoths that you will encounter, there are also 10 unlockable Behemoths that are much more difficult and will provide an extra challenge. They are unlocked by solving the seals that were placed upon them. Square-Enix released some of the solutions to these seals over time on their official Blood of Bahamut blog, but it seems that they didn't release all of them (I could only find three of them). We have provided the complete set of solutions.

 View the album here.
Known Issues:
* Text appears on-screen at a constant letter-by-letter rate during some story segments but depending on length of the text on the page, will start displaying faster near the end. Minor issue at most, hopefully.
* Due to name length limitations in-game, some character names have been shortened as a compromise. If you have never played the Japanese version anyway, maybe this isn't so important.

The results of the graphics poll are in. We will be using Graphic #4 (Outline with Shadow) in the patch. Thanks to everyone who voted! We had a small snag in the poll, but luckily tj_cool was able to do some SQL magic to avert the crisis :)

02/03/2012
We have a new poll. Please select a style for the chapter title graphics. Click the spoiler at the very top of this thread to see the choices.

11/01/2011
We have extracted and translated all graphics containing Japanese text that we could find in the ROM. Tricky Upgrade, pleonex, Zydaline and Zarcon were integral in this process.

09/09/2011
The results of the poll are in! We received a total of 161 votes, with 108 for "Behemoth" and 53 for "Colossus." Looks like "Behemoth" stays.

09/03/2011
A poll has been put up for this project! Please vote!
Q: What is this poll about?
A: The giants in the game are living continents upon which people have built nations. It's debatable as to whether they're actually living creatures or not--it's entirely possible they could be more like automatons (golems) animated by godly magic--in the game they were created by Bahamut, but that's about as far as they go in explaining their origin. In the original Japanese they're called 巨獣 (kyojuu, literally "giant beast" or "large animal"). There is a debate among the translators and editors as to whether we should translate the word into "Behemoth" or "Colossus." We want you, the fans of this translation, to help us make the decision!

Please note that the translations are constantly being updated so the text you see on the screenshots will not necessarily be the same by the time we release a patch. In fact, much of the text you see in these screenshots has already been changed.

Q: Why have you started yet another BoB translation topic?
A: Because the first attempt was utter fail, the topic creator having been banned and the thread locked. In the second attempt, the topic creator went AWOL over 2 years ago (made 10 posts and disappeared forever), and there was no organization. As active members who are directly involved in the project, we wanted control of the first post so we could update the topic easily. Third time's a charm?

Q: Will this be a full translation?
A: Absolutely.

Q: Can I help translate or edit?
A: Can you read this image? If yes, send a PM to Densetsu with your English translation of the image. If it's good enough, you will receive a short test designed to further assess your translating ability. If you pass, we want you on the team! The test will consist of an image containing Japanese text including kanji, so you won't be able to cheat by copy-pasting the text into a dictionary. We do not allow machine translations. We want people who actually know and can read Japanese. Experience in playing the game is a plus. We are no longer accepting additional editing help unless you know Japanese. The editing has gotten to the point where you must be able to check the translation against the original Japanese (and play the game in Japanese for context), so even our current editors can't really do much to help at this point in the project timeline.

Q: Can I be a beta-tester?
A: Once the translations have been finished, we will be looking for people who are serious about contributing to the project, not people who "just want to try the patch." As such, the beta test will be invite-only and we will ask a handful of well-known, reputable members who are willing to test it for us. Those who beta-test will be credited in the project. When the beta-testing phase is opened, we will provide the testers with information about proper bug report format (we will require beta-testers to submit screenshots with the reports).

Q: When will you release a patch?
A: After beta-testing is completed.

Q: Is there any way you can speed up the project?
A:

I thought that the way to speed up the project is to actually be an active contributor. Anything else would just be "bunk".

Seriously, though, a translation is about time. Considering your dedication here, they should be thankful that this pr,oject is just progressing!

Hahaha, people actually ask silly things like that, it's sad

However, yes, with Densetsu as the project leader and a translator, this project is really flying by. We didn't want to announce anything until we made enough progress to announce. I was expecting the actual events to smother us to death, but they aren't bad at all

Densetsu did most of the translating for Hajime no Ippo, so he brings a lot to the table, including firm leadership. Inori and I are pretty thorough from working on a text-heavy game, so this is pretty easy to translate (Though the repetitive items is murder

)

Much easier to translate than VNs, that's for sure. (But we'll still translate VNs.)

I've been lurking on the other thread for a while and to be honest that one was one big mess...

Nice project anyways, maybe you might want to add the progress in the first post or something, because there will always be people that think the project is dead when there are no posts. So they think they can "revive" the project by posting. Plus, you have the updates in one central spot as well.

The first post has been updated with a new "Progress" section.

We're currently trying to get all of the items, item descriptions, menus, tutorial, etc. fully translated before we move on to the story script.

There are also image files that contain Japanese text that need to be translated, but they haven't been extracted yet.

Thank you for starting a translation on this game. I've played a bit of it before, but being unable to understand the story sucked out my enthusiasm for continuing.

Amazing progress so far. How long ago did you start in on this before you announced?

Sounds like it's going to be a top quality translation though. Thanks in advance for the great work thus far, can't wait for the completed product. My DS needs some more love these days.

I don't even know what this game is, but with you all working on it I'm definitely interested.I linked to the Wikipedia article in the first post. It's basically a multiplayer action RPG, but it can be played alone.

It's hard to say. Either Marvin Dalkiri, WataruKun or Noitora dumped the text files soon after the game was released, but I'm not sure whose text dumps we ended up using because I came into the project relatively recently. I believe this project has passed hands a couple of times and has been dropped and picked up a few times until the project finally ended up in its current form. I heard that Uzumakijl did some translation at some point, but I don't think this project really gained traction until Goli, Inori and phoenixgoddess27 (and Valiarchon for a while) started translating. They already had a large chunk of the text translated by the time I signed on. I'd say the bulk of the translations that we have so far were done between last November and now. This is just the first time the project has been really organized with a proper translation topic with all of the information unified in the first post.

Well, Uzamakijl, Inori and I had started from scratch when we started translating, but then it was put on hold, dropped, put on hold, dropped, put on hold until it was just dropped all over again. Inori, Goli, Valiarchon(for a moment) and I started translating again in November. We hadn't done much before its first hiatus, but in November, we translated quuuuite a bit. Densetsu's been on the team for about a week or so and the project already boosted from 80% to 86%(excluding event_txt files).
