Your first impressions of the Switch 2

Bigger than I Was expecting, Switch is somewhat small in comparison.

I'm not a huge fan of the ergonomics still. Playing handheld still seems cumbersome. Lifting the console with one hand also seems reliant on positioning your finger on the detach trigger, but thankfully it needs more effort to detach.

Overall it's just the Switch 1 but better so I'm happy. The Switch is probably my favorite console of all time, so as long as we'll be able to hack the 2 eventually, I'm expecting more of the same.

It doesn't feel cheap at all. Feels nice and matte(y). Way better than the S1. In fact, it feels just as good as my ROG.

On the side note, I can't get the 8bitdo adapter to work. Which is annoying, as I like to use the dualshock 4 instead of the pro controller.

Never owned an original Switch so can't compare to that, but got a few thoughts so far:

Saw people saying the joycons felt cheap. Maybe that gave me low expectations because I thought they felt decent and had more weight to them than I expected, though I have no intention of using them separated from the console.

The dock on the other hand absolutely feels cheap. First thing it reminded me of was the old routers ISPs would give you 10+ years ago in the UK.

Surprised at how nice the Pro 2 controller is. Maybe it's my anti-Nintendo bias but I was expecting it to feel a bit cheap like the Stadia controller, but it feels just as good as the PS5 and Xbox Series controllers to me, with the added bonus of grip buttons. If my brain wasn't hardwired to have confirm and cancel the other way around I'd probably use it as my main controller.

Only big disappointment for me was that there's no way to passthrough 5.1 audio from my TV to optical out. I don't have a hdmi input on my Z906 and I'm not going to buy new speakers just for the Sw2. Apparently this is due to Nintendo cheaping out on Dolby support which is the type of shenanigans that usually keep me away from Nintendo consoles.

On the game side the only one I've played so far is Pokemon Violet, looks and runs great with the free upgrade.

Overall I'm happy enough with the purchase but kind of regret buying 2. I have poor impulse control

The console feels a little too big and heavy for me but maybe the heavy part is because Im a little sick right now...
I like the design in general... I have tested Zelda Awakening Upgrade a few minute and it was clean and smooth in term of perf and also rayman legend demo to see how old switch 1 game adapt to the bigger screen now, It was really good... make me kinda happy to see this for now.

I think the panel is quite good actually. And I like the new Joycons - but I still think the device is too large. What is the point of a handheld when it is getting more and more like the size of an actual table-top console of the past?

For me Switch Lite is the best size - if it had a 5.8" screen it would be optimal.

It's subjective, obvious. I'm not a fan of the new Joy-Cons, but I'll say they're an upgrade over the original at the very least.

C button is not the only difference. The whole thing feels better. The analog sticks feel so smooth, they would seem frictionless, if it weren't for the spring tension. It has grip buttons. It has a headphone jack. It supposedly has better haptic feedback as well, but I can't attest to that since I don't have a Switch 2, so the controller is useless for now.

My only complaint is that the triggers are not analog.

I really love how they implemented the grip buttons too. Just holding Home in-game and pressing them to quickly assign them is super nice, and it saving the config per-game automatically is great too.

As a whole I am really loving the console. Been playing a bunch of Rune Factory today and it runs great, looks great, and generally seems like a great game. Of the games I've played, the only one I really have complaints about is Hitman. The FPS just is not where it needs to be, and it's genuinely such a shame. Hoping IO will patch it.

Did you try both handheld and docked? Things are throttled a bit when in handheld mode, to save battery.

Yeah it's pretty bad in both. Others online have said it's worse in docked and playable handheld, but I didn't have a great time of it. Also had a crash which was frustrating. Everything else I've tried has been fantastic.

The switch supports linear 5.1 PCM which is lossless audio. Optical does not have the bandwidth to pass such an audio signal. Perhaps a future firmware update may give DTS or Dolby compressed codecs which would be able to pass through the optical cable. I have a similar issue as my TV has an optical running to my AV receiver and can't pass the lossless surround, I ordered an HDMI splitter so I can have one HDMI to the TV for HDR video and one HDMI to the receiver for lossless 5.1 PCM.

I've only really played it docked so far but it's been great. The best of the launch games are Rune Factory and Fast Fusion with its incredible 4K 60Hz mode. The Pro 2 controller is really nice too I'm so glad I ended up getting it as it immediately made my experience way better.

Have you got Mario kart world? If so, does it play well? I’m wondering how breath of the wild (remastered or not) plays atm. It’s great to hear the pro 2 is good, I hope it’s a bit different than the switch 1 pro controller, that one felt too mushy to me although I never personally owned one as I had a switch lite.

MKW is a solid game and the chaotic races are good fun, but it's so expensive for what you get. For me personally, Fast Fusion is a much better buy.

Edit: I don't have a camera though so maybe that adds more value to the MKW races.
