[Completed Translation] Time Travelers

time_travelers_logo.png
After 8 years of research and translation, we can finally present you our final patch for the english fan translation of "Time Travelers" by Level5 on the 3DS.

We went through some years of stagnation and burnout. The team changed and got smaller. But we persevered, invested months over months in quality control, and now we're proud to release it!

The package you download is an app to apply the patch file to a .3ds or .cia version of the game. You're required to get your own decrypted dump of the game.
The app will create a Luma3DS LayeredFS-ready folder with all the necessary files in it. You just have to move that folder to the correct Luma3DS folder on your SD card.

Content

This patch contains the entire main story. However, there is post-game content which we did not include in this patch.
It was not our goal to translate the post-game content, and given how long this project already took, we decided to not pursue this further for now.

However, it's not impossible that the post-game content will be released at one point.

As for what you would miss out on: The post-game content is a kind of life-sim with the main heroine of "Time Travelers" to get to know her better and the world.

Documentation

If you're interested in creating a translation of this game for another language, we will document and give access to every tool we used/created and provide access to all our working files. Read up on everything here.

I posted this in the 3DS sub forum and reported it myself asking if there could be an article on it on the front page for more exposure. The moderators then pinned it to the front page.
Ship has been going down.

Where the survivors go to, who knows.

For my New 3DS it loaded as fast as the original and I didn't notice any framedrops that weren't in the original.

Yes, just switching out the files is enough to update.

This was explicitly not our goal. We didn't take over honorifics, for example, so we didn't keep it 100% original, but the game is as is, with the same content, just understood by english people in some instances.

Due to the amounts of executable patches and lack of understanding of the hardware and modding scene for Vita, we don't plan a Vita release. But we release all our assets and working files, so other teams more knowledgable can try their hands at porting it over.
First, thanks for the great work! This sounds great!
I was wondering, what about a PSP patch release? The PSP is fully understood and much easier to work with than the vita, and every Vita can run PSP games, and this game has a PSP version. So if you can make a PSP patch it would be much simpler and you would be allowing both PSP and Vita owners to play it :).

Regardless though, great work!

Great work.. i hope you help New Love Plus + fan translation as well.. hope yo see it complete.. kudos to your work.. 🥰

Well, you made me interested in this game despite never even heard of it before (though I like a few VN style games, so it should be right up my ballpark), so I bit the bullet and bought a used copy from amazon.jp (including shipping I paid about 30€ even though the game alone was only about 10€). Should arrive from Japan this week, definitely excited to try this game :) So thanks in advance for all your hard work in translating it!

I personally think the PS Vita version is better.

But whatever floats your boat.

I personally think the PS Vita is version is more difficult, but I digress
More difficult? It's a Visual Novel, what could be more difficult about it? Not to mention, the lua scripts in the game are cross-platform, so also used as is on the Vita.

We actually didn't know there was a PSP release until a few days ago. We only ever assumed a 3DS and Vita release.

While they are on the FTI server, I rarely interacted with them and I think aren't that active on our server anymore.

I didn't even know this game existed. After Dragon Quest VIII, I became a huge Level-5 fan. I've looked up several videos, and I still don't know what kind of gameplay this game has.

Thank you for all your hard work! Despite the difficulties, I'm glad the project made it to the finish line.

It's a visual novel. The gameplay is mainly making choices at branching points in the story and some QTE's.

Well, now that you know about it, any chance you port the translation to the PSP? After all, like I said, the PSP is fully understood and much easier to work with than the vita, and every Vita can run PSP games. So if you can make a PSP patch it would be much simpler and you would be allowing both PSP and Vita owners to play it :).

Is this real life?
It's definitely not fantasy.

I currently look into tooling and how such a patch would work. I have no experience with this platform, and many changes have to be made, simply because of varying layouts throughout the game.

So, no promises, and certainly no fast release either, looking at it. After all, some of our tools have to be adjusted to support all the PSP variants of Level5's formats, menu layouts, text layouts, etc.

This is a whole bunch of stuff to do, and practically worth a separate effort (except for translation).

The code.bin and exheader.bin were modified (do i need to use the files from luma patch, or from the game are ok?)? I'm trying to integrate the patch.cpk (on romfs folder, next to tt1_ctr.cpk) and i saw the .bin files are different vs the game.

Thanks.

You HAVE to use the code.bin and exheader.bin from the patch, yes. The patches in them are obviously necessary, otherwise we wouldn't have included them.

I'm also not sure if you can even keep out the patch.cpk, as we patched the code.bin to explicitly load it from SD. I don't know if the game would crash, if it doesn't find it.

Beyond that, I will not help integrating those changes into the ROM, as this is not necessary to play the patch, and offering prepatched ROM's is obviously not allowed.

Hey folks, new here but wanted to chime in and ask if anyone has had any luck getting this working on Citra? I tried putting the patch.cpk file inside the romfs folder, and putting that into the game's mods folder, as that's what I could gather I was supposed to do based on the more general tutorials on using mods in Citra, but doesn't seem to work.

This is what I mean, I'm doing the closest equivlient to these in Citra (the paths are a bit different from Lime3DS). So right now I have:
code.bin and exheader.bin in C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Citra\load\mods\000400000008C600
patch.cpk in C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Citra\sdmc\Nintendo 3DS\00000000000000000000000000000000\00000000000000000000000000000000\title\00040000\0008c600\romfs

...and this doesn't seem to be working.
