Oh. I think I just made a mistake with the original config I posted. Command 0x0E was erroneously enabled (on Vita config only).

@The_Ho If you or someone else would like to test and see if this fixes it, please do!
I tested it and yes, the crashes stopped, I played a little more and now everything seems correct.

Thank you for testing and verifying that.

@ronniesahlberg You can replace the Valkyrie Profile configs in the repository with the corrected ones that are attached.

What would be a better title for this thread?

SetRegion-GUI | Mode to fix PS1 games for PSP and PSVita.

Or

SetRegion-GUI | Fix PS1 games for PSP and PSVita.

Edit: I'm up for recommendations.

Well, I would suggest something more akin to “POPS on PSP/Vita - Config Research” or something. This thread is a lot less about SetRegion nowadays because of the better and truer methods of fixing games with configs.

I am trying to figure out how to play Silent Bomber on my PS2 or PS Vita. Any ideas how to get this working correctly?
Use pop-fe to convert your game for PSP/Vita. It includes automatic fixes.

you mean Popstarter sir?....

I tried to use pops on PS2 and it doesn't seems to work. First of all the new OPL doesn't support PS1 games anymore apparently and so even using an older version which did like v 0.9.3 just gives me a blank screen when trying to load PS1 games that I changed the format with an app (forgot the name).

I have not tried popstarter but from what I've just read it seems to be compatible with the newest OPL build and should come up under "apps".
Thanks for the info!

yeah the new UI format and style of OPL doesnt support PS1..and yeah "APPS" its kinda hassle to edit and add every PS1 game to be shown on menu unlike the old version i think i still the version where there is a "GREATNESS" word when loading OPL...it had a TAB or column for PS1 games...and its very simple... i havent tested some PS1 games on the current OPL... all i know is the Popstarter itself is already obsolete ever since last update 2019..its almost 5 yrs... and yet there are still games that doesnt work or run well...its kinda hassle and time consuming to test every PS1 games or test your favorite PS1 games you wanted to play... i only have Quake 2 and CTR i though i can use my PS2 multitap but unfortunately its not working/compatible..

You're talking about OPL 10th annyversary edition. The problem with this version of OPL is that the guy who made it got into a beef with the OG developers and basically it became it owns separate fork. But eventually the main OPL fork continued to be developed while the 10th annyversary edition was stopped being updated somewhere before I added ZSO to OPL.

The OG developers of OPL don't want to include POPS stuff in OPL because they wanna keep the project 100% open source and free of any copyrighted material.

I personally know that it doesn't matter much to Sony if you include their POPS (I do that in ARK-4 so you can use PSP POPS on PS Vita when Official Vita POPS is not available), but each developer has their own philosiphy.

Perhaps the better solution is to use a separate launcher like XEB+, since OPL's GUI will most likely never grow much more than it is now as they wanna keep OPL to a minimum to allow it to be included with other apps that have better GUI.

Just to be clear, adrenaline is still required to play these games on vita. What about on PS2?
You can now use `ARK-X` too, it was released with the latest `ARK-4` not long ago and uses the Official Sony POPS for Vita, though compatibility will be the same as Adrenaline I think.

Thanks for the info on ark-4 / ark-x.... I will definitely try it, although it's only for PSP & psvita/tv. I was hoping to find a solution for PS1 games on my PS2.

For PS1 games on PS2 there are people working on deckard (the PowerPC IOP found in Slim models). When finished, deckard consoles will have full PS1 support via USB. It won't work on Fat PS2 though.

Please excuse my ignorance about the details of the situation, but is pops integrated into opl in that case or is it independent but distributed together with opl?

In the latter case just providing an external README on "do this to install pops ontop of opl" could be a solution.

That said, the ZSO and the exFAT additions to OPL are amazingly great. Thanks for that! If it comes at the cost of losing POPS support then so be it.

Is our topic now fixed?. Cool, thanks.

I believe this will give greater visibility and prominence to those looking to ask for help or contribute to corrections.

Regarding the title, I've been wanting to change it for a long time, the way I did it the first time was very relaxed (I'm grateful to whoever allowed me to post it anyway, others would block it), it was bothering me and I didn't expect the subject to grow so much to the point of finding so many people interested and making it grow so much by sharing knowledge and a lot of effort.

@mrjaredbeta Thanks for the suggestion for the title, I couldn't have done better.

@OPPAI_DAISUKI I tested your Jackiechan config and to me it seems that everything is ok regarding the terrible slows from before, while there is still no solution for the game videos, I intend to create a ppf and include your custom config along with it, thank you.

Is Wisi's DKWDRV related? I'm looking forward to it, I haven't seen anything new about it in a while.

They are independent, they are not distributed together. Many users confuse this mainly because of the old PS2 HOME OPL DB (a fork of the Original OPL) which contained a tab for PS1 games, and some people created packages with OPL DB and POPStarter configured together and with PS1 games already appearing in the tab. of the OPL. This made and still makes many people think that the OPL ran PS1 in addition to PS2.

Today POPStarter can be used in the same way in the Apps tab of the official opl with a simple command.

I basically never cared much about it, I always used OPL for PS2 only and the rest used UlaunchELF, to run other emulators and Popstarter (PS1).

I'm more interested in integrating things only now with XEB+ (Extreme Elite Boot)

hey @mrjaredbeta , it sounds like the compatibility list is moved to the dev wiki (looks amazing). I noticed there were a couple gaps where there was data on the old sheet. Is that because compatibility hasn't been confirmed on pop-fe yet? If so, I can maybe help re-test the blank spots within the NTSC-U column on pop-fe, then afterwards start going down the list of PAL games and test those on pop-fe too, then submit edits to the wiki of my findings. Let me know if that's not a helpful plan. (You guys are obviously a million times more proficient with creating actual configs, so I thought I'd be more helpful as a[nother] more dedicated tester.)

On a similar note, I'm not sure how swamped you guys are with trying to get the right configs for games right now, but I've been trying to help a Redditor the past couple days with the PAL-E version of FF8 (SLES-02080) on his PSP (See my GitHub ticket: https://github.com/sahlberg/pop-fe/issues/88). 2 main things:
  • pop-fe needs to inject the subchannel data for Discs 2-4; it only seems to recognize & do so for Disc 1
    • (I think this one will be quickly/easily fixed by ronniesahlberg whenver he has a moment to get around to it)
  • The Redditor reports several freeze issues with the game. But it sounds like he only started having troubles once he moved to Disc 2. Here's the last report he sent to me:

So from my observations for now: From what I tested it's two spells: drawing Cura to stock, but not always, and it only freezes the game (I mean I can exit to POPS menu and reset the game) and also only sometimes casting Scan on self, which freezes everything (and I have to hard-reset PSP).

I went to check if there was an existing FF8 config on the Git repo to test on the PAL-E version, but didn't see one.
Thanks :)

Edit: a PSN version of FF8 PAL-E exists. (derp. I'm rusty, guys.) I know you guys have migrated psn configs in the past

Nah, compatibility should be fine with pop-fe compared to other converters, so it must be just that everything has to be copies over manually. It's really easy too, I did a few edits and they don't take more than half a day to be accepted at most.
Games that could have better compatibility are those that crashed because of CDDA, like Wipeout 3, Vanishing Point, The Next Tetris (although there are graphical issues in the NTSC-U release, works fine on PAL and NTSC-J).
Otherwise, compatibility should remain equal, except for those that have configs, of course.

The FF8 config stayed the same between PSP and Vita it seems, but I never checked the config within the PSN eboot... Perhaps it differs somewhat.
Anyway, maybe it's like Fear Effect which only the PSN release works fine on PSP and not brew conversions.

Could you ask the redditor for his save?
