Further information about the upcoming Nintendo Switch "Mig Switch" flashcart has been revealed

mig.png

A few days after the monumental reveal of a work-in-progress flashcart being made for the Nintendo Switch, more information has been made available. The previously unnamed flashcart is set to be called "Mig Switch", and the initial Twitter user that unveiled the Mig Switch's existence, After Time X, managed to get in contact with the team behind it all. According to them, they were offered a review unit of the Mig Switch, but turned it down, as the After Time X team fears legal repercussions from dealing with "backup loader" hardware.

Another interesting tidbit is that existing dumps of Switch games will NOT be compatible with the Mig Switch, and backups will need to be repacked to function with the flashcart. Games played with the flashcart can be played online, as well.

The Mig Switch currently has a website, where it is seeking distributors to work together with in order to sell initial limited quantities of the Mig Switch device, with the first units to be delivered sometime in January. The team claims that full availability is expected around March/April 2024. It'll come with the Mig Switch card, and the Mig Switch Dumper, with the latter of which allowing you to back up your games using NXdumpTool.

Correct me if im wrong, but you can create unlimited amount of key for that lock, but when the hotel realise their lock has been compromised, they'll just change the lock, right?
Kinda, Most Locks have a Master-Master key, which when you use it you can insert a new set of keys and the old ones are invalid and the new ones become the working ones.

On IT certificate world is something like that if you "lock" (private key) become compromised, you can invalidate it and generate a new private key, the downside is you need to generate new certificate for each client. on the console side is doable, but on physical certificates that render the physical device inoperative and need to be replaced.

It really gives all the more reason to push all digital. No flashcarts, less entry points, heck even the PS5 has the optical drive as an entry point. These types of devices are just one of many reasons I imagine there is an all digital future.
If you want to be extreme then put the super glue such that when you try to open the Switch it will destroy it, no more mod chip and no functional mother board to mod

Every measure against piracy have associated cost. Nintendo need to balance cost vs benefit. Would be foolhardy to think that when pirate can't pirate they become paying customer. The more likely case is they come here and bad mouth Nintendo and still never let them earn a cent.

will homebrew work on the cart?
Nope, as cartridges need to be dumped specially with the MIG Switch dumper for the flashcart. They need to be signed with the master key.

seriously? the innocent's day is gone!
Actually there is a likely hood that the home brew people may soon make use of the cart. So the answer is maybe yes but only for the Switch with CFW.

With the new duplicated key card he opens the door to his room and played pirated games (like he has done every day before).

I'm sure they'll make patches to get around that, no?
Once saw that happen to Gateway until they purposely bricked consoles because of it.

Okay now this is curious. I think the most interesting thing on this Mig Switch at all, is not only the flashcart itself, but what will come after it, after some good amount of units being sold, we might see something different (maybe better) using the base of Mig Switch. Like the Acekard and then the R4 card in the DS era.

That still won't eliminate piracy on the models with the RCM exploit. It's more likely that Nintendo is currently thinking of an update to HorizonOS which will provide a lot of work to the Atmosphère devs to update it to support the latest version.

Selling a device designed around piracy for a profit huh? Well this has never gone poorly before on the Switch.
Funny i imagined thatthis site would jizz all over this thing and the moddi g scene for a console that's still supported was hacked and still patched with "stability upgrades" is amusing why not just wait until the original console has ceased support then do the illegal shit as the company won't give a fuck anymore as it will have a new and better machine out.

Honesty it is literally too late for a flashkart. More so with that Pi Zero modchip being so cheap.

Even paying someone else to mod your Switch, the flashcart is not worth it.

Actually the are developing for Switch 2. Imo it’s foolish to use the same code for Switch 2

Thank you very much Nintendo for the training so developer will be ready to make CFW2

Ive already got people saying they are going to wait for this than rather getting a chip fitted lol.

They think its just plug and go and they wont get banned and still play homebrew lol....

Playing online will work if you own the cart originally and you dont share the id but we know how that ends in the pirate world lol
