Oh so it could have been a total disaster like in the UK?
Given the excessive taxes I used to pay every year, I enjoyed that disaster quite a bit. The program was very similar, and lasted even longer than in the U.S. - I brought it up earlier.

You enjoyed seeing cronyism and frat Herd mentality being rewarded while people died, including health professionals, because of inadequate equipment the Conservative Government paid way too much for? Do you so enjoy the death of innocents doing their job?

I enjoyed getting some of my hard-earned money back as opposed to being spent on boondoggles. The NHS is a shit show, but it’s been a shit show for much longer than since the pandemic started. If you’re looking to shut the shit show down then I’m first in line to agree with you, it’s a wasteful moloch of a system that kills people and provides inadequate care for way too much money.

The NHS was brilliant. Its always been Conservative cronyism and shady practices ruining it. Private healthcare is an abyss i don't want to be part of.

Great rebuttal. You could’ve just posted that and saved yourself a couple of keystrokes, glad that the exchange is now concluded.
Yeah, sorry. I don't bother debating with people who straight up lie.

The NHS certainly has issues, the conservatives want to sell it to their mates & so they want it to fail (in a way that can't be traced back to them).

But in comparison to the American health system, it's perfect. Private healthcare in America and the UK might give a faster service, though especially in the UK you find the same surgeons working in both on different days of the week. Only entitled pieces of shit like the American system.

The issue in the UK is that the government thought they were the only corrupt people.

Buying rich peoples votes seems like a great idea on paper, though it raises ethical questions of why they paid people a percentage of their salary to be unemployed due to covid restrictions but people who can't work due to illness normally are paid below what you can survive on (and then pushed through a cycle of having their benefits taken away and reinstated when they go through three levels of complaints).

They should have looked at their own dodgy PPE contracts and thought "If we're doing this, then maybe the plebs are also committing fraud".

These latest indictments are the best ones yet. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this all plays out.

”I don’t like the numbers, so I won’t read them” - if your attention span is insufficient to read a page of text, any form of nuanced discussion with you is pointless. Nobody is going to draw a picture book for you. I’m just going to ignore this conduct in the future since you’ve indicated that you have no intention of actually contributing to the discussion.

The NHS was never good and should be replaced with a mixed private-public insurance system, similar to those implemented in Norway, the Netherlands, Germany or Switzerland, all of which rank higher than the UK’s.

“The plebs committing fraud” is a pretty funny concept. Damn these poor people, getting money from the government for being prevented from working (at full capacity, or at all) by the government! Total nonsense - everyone should take every opportunity they can and apply for every penny they can get from the government - it is their money, and if the law says they’re entitled to it, they’re entitled to it.
I don't know what you're talking about. I guess if you went up to a doctor with this attitude of yours you probably got laughed out of the room? With good reason.
I’d rather go to the vet than to A&E - I wouldn’t have to wait 4+ hours to get the wrong diagnosis. God forbid I need anything done with a specialist - by the time I see one I might grow a beard. In all my time spent in the UK, I have never used the services of the NHS once, and I don’t intend to. Missus does because she has no choice, it’s how the system is set up, and to say that the care is inadequate is a gross understatement. My only “health emergencies” include occasional dental check-ups, and when it’s time for one, I buy a ticket to Poland and get it done privately because I don’t want my mouth to look like a set of piano keys. Not that any of this matters, this is not a thread about the NHS. The only reason why I’m mentioning it at all is because I’m paying for a system I will never, ever use with no option to opt out. Good, good.

”I don’t like the numbers, so I won’t read them” -
No, you lied by saying it was I that bought up statistics when it was you that did.

Everything after that was just your normal gaslighting.

How many black people kill black people is irrelevant, the premise of your entire argument is just wrong.

Are you saying you like the numbers?

It was designed to keep paying people wages despite a government and disease-induced downturn in business.
The money should've been sent straight to struggling households instead, but if Republicans prioritized people over corporate profits, they wouldn't be Republicans any more. Same reason the Trumpian SCOTUS blocked Biden's student loan forgiveness despite having no constitutional basis for doing so.

We're talking about the fraud that they weren't entitled to, because the government did no checks at all.

I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that they were dumb, they might just be corrupt. Typical right wing, always one or the other.

Sure, but until we get rid of FPTP voting so that we can have a more socialist coalition then having that kind of system won't work in the UK. For obvious reasons that I would hope you know. You can't keep shitting on people from your ivory tower and then expect them to be able to afford health care when they can barely afford food.

You whinge about taxes but a fairer society that allows a more european system, will cost you more.

I didn’t say that you brought it up, I said that you prompted the response, because the only response to emotional appeals like “white people are killing black kids at their doors” is to provide the actual numbers and state in no uncertain terms that the number one risk of getting shot in the black community is getting shot by another black person, and that risk is higher than the equivalent risk among whites. The numbers are not for liking or disliking - they’re numbers, you cannot argue with them, you can only try to change them through policy and community outreach. It would be nice if people weren’t killing each other at all, but that’s an idealised vision of the world.

I hope you realise that in order to do so you’d have to assemble another army of expensive pencil pushers. It is orders of magnitude easier, cheaper and better to handle this via employers and treat it as normal income because the IRS (USA) and the HMRC (UK) already exist and are perfectly capable of dealing with individual income. In fact, that’s why they exist at all.
That is the most sense I have gotten out of you ever, and a sliver of acknowledgement of reality, so I don’t need to read the rest. As long as we can agree on the NHS sucking the big one and other, better systems that can be emulated existing out there, I am happy to shake on that. The discussion of how to replace it and with what is entirely separate.

Well the result was that nearly half a trillion dollars was wasted on fraudulent applicants, and now even more money has to be spent on recovering it.

I'm saying that the european health care services are run slightly better, don't get a hard on or anything.

The NHS is failing because of people in government that are as myopic as you.

So much so that in the UK, HMRC is finding it hard to collect income tax from businesses as they don't have the staff available as it's now dealing with fraud (no problem collecting it from employees though).

It’s a good thing we’ve got all of those new IRS agents for the job, ones that are now armed and busy shooting themselves during routine exercises. I personally wouldn’t task them with recovering an Uber Eats from McDonalds and delivering it to a customer, but that’s just me.

I almost fainted, actually. I fully expected you to pretend that the NHS works great just to be a contrarian.

You said:

Are we *really* at the crime statistics stage of the conversation? Okay, you prompted this.

As you were the one that mentioned crime statistics and I repeatedly pointed out that the statistics are irrelevant & you keep dragging it back to that, then why would you be asking that specific question?

Either you're lying, or you have dementia.
