When I get home I can share the shots, but I wanted to add though, that I was wrong on one thing: when I mentioned 480p, I meant 240p, using component cables and the system set in Progressive Scan (480p). In actual 480p the output seems to be the usual blurry, bilinear filtered picture that's always been.
Do you mean that when 240p mode is enabled, the 480p TV modes, like the bios intro for example, are still blurry? or just when 240p is disabled in settings?
When 240p is on and a game plays in high resolution (480i normally on a real ps1, and can be 480p if you have Progressive Scan and component cables) the picture has no bilinear.
Torneko, which I already mentioned and is a pretty weird game as far as aspect ratios and resolutions go, looks much better with 240p on, as it plays most of the time in high resolution.
What surprises me a little is that I tried it on prior versions and the aspect ratio did not seemed to be well adjusted (again, weird game) but on this last one seemed to be fine. In fact the game never looked better on the Wii.
I was using version 2.3 of wiistation playing castlevania symphony of the night and getting 45fps i just updated to version 2.4 and now im getting a constant 60fps wow i was not expecting that. i have a question is there a way to disable deflicker filter for wiistation? I really need to test more games.

Same here.
On version V4a (Wii set to 480p, official component cables)
Ridge Racer 4 NTSC (SLUS-00797)
- 240p turned on: my TV switch to 480i. The game menu are full 4:3, but during race, there's additional black borders on the sides: the screen ratio is not full 4:3, the image is a bit squished horizontally (circles are ovals)
- If I turn off 240p (while being in-game), the TV switches to 480p, the bilinear filter is still off (sharp image) and the aspect ratio is back full 4:3 during the current race (circles are circles again), but once the race ends and back to the game menu, bilinear filter is on again (blurry image is back, as 240p is turned off).
- Note: if 240p is turned on when I launch R4, there's a DSI error after the NAMCO logo screen. I have to turn it on when the game reaches the title main screen.
Magical Tetris Challenge PAL (SCES-02179)
- Same as R4: when 240p is turned on, the game menu has a good aspect ratio, but during a match, the image is squished horizontally.
- Unlike R4, when I turn 240p off (while being in game), the bilinear is still off (sharp image), good 4:3 aspect ratio (not squished horizontally), but the image always stays sharp (bilinear always off) even when back to the game menu, and then starting another match.
- Unlike R4, if 240p is turned on when I launch the game, there's no crash.
Note:
I have to test it again, but I think in V4, Ridge Racer 4 with 240p on has the same behaviour than Magical Tetris Challenge in V4a, i.e. turning off 240p while in game, the image stays sharp in 480p AND has a good 4:3 aspect ratio, either in game menu or during races.
- Note: if 240p is turned on when I launch R4, there's a DSI error after the NAMCO logo screen. I have to turn it on when the game reaches the title main screen.
I am not sure why some have aspect ratio issues, on my CRT everything seems normal for Ridge Racer 4.
It might be that some upscalers get confused when switching resolutions.

Yes right now if you turn 240p off it doesn't reset the bilinear filtering until the game switches resolutions. But it will still stretch the image, which might cause aliasing.
But is seems I should definitely just add a bilinear filter on/off option somewhere.

I understand now it happens when the game switches resolution between 480i/480p. Only game menus are in 480p in R4 (those with the yellow background), therefore not squished on my screen. My TV doesn't like the switch to 480i during races and squishes the image in this resolution ^^

Oh, it explains why the trick works with Magical Tetris Challenge then. The resolution is always the same (480i in menu, game, etc), therefore bilinear is not reset when "forcing" 480p by disabling 240p on the fly.
But it will still stretch the image, which might cause aliasing.
The image is maybe slightly less sharp, but not by much. And it's still waaay sharper than with bilinear filtering being on (that's so blurry, it's shocking now ), and with at least a correct aspect ratio.

For me, Medievil crashes both if the 240p mode is enabled and disabled. The game doesn't crash on the latest official 2.4 release.
Because all changes I have made should be disabled when 240p is not enabled, the issue may be in the other changes made since the official 2.4 release.

SOTN, Rockman X4, SFA3 and DBGT run with no issues on current 2.4 v5
Another thing, will there ever be an option to disable the ''smart crop'' ps1 usually does to capcom arcade ports like their fighting games, and have the full frame at 4:3?
Is it me or Wiistation does not support the use of 2 classic controllers? It recognizes a gc controller and a classic when both are plugged but that's not the case with only 2 classics.
I was going to say the same thing as the comment above, Medievil crashes whether it's set to 240p or not.
EDIT
I just realized and it is that the emulator doesn't detect the ntsc/pal region change on a game that has a region selector, in other versions it did change the region but in this last one it no longer. I don't know if anyone has commented on it here or has noticed this.

Maybe you already did that, but did you check in "Input" tab, then "Configure Input", that the second controller is set to "Classic"? (maybe it is set to "GC controller").
I never tested 2 classic controllers, so I can't say. I'll check later.
The bilinear filter is always disabled for 240p. For 480i/p disabling it will make the pixels sharper but at the cost of scaling artifacs.
The trap filter will improve quality on fine detail when using composite cables.

Yeah the audio de-sync is something should be worked on but step by step, atm i am happy to finally have 240p and optional filters for preference.
They said PSX emulation on Wii could not be improved properly, but even since last year this fork was revived i kept testing it for really casual play with the hopes of one day improving and getting to the point of high compatibility and stability to make up for lack of good n64 emulation on the console, so that the wii could be the easiest emulation box.
Every console pre-NES, NES, adequate SNES emulation, near perfect Genesis, GB/GBC with RA-Hexaco and Gambatte, VC titles for the few titles on SNES and n64 you wanted, CPS 1-2, then perfect GBA emulation with Mgba, GCN and WII titles, and now, PSX emulation scene being resurrected thanks to lightrec (and i hope it gets better goin on, slowly but surely), to the point of being 50-58% reliable for most 2D & non demanding 3D, i always keep hope.
Speaking off, please DO NOT ignore this point, i FINALLY found out the problem with the 19 pauses on Wii emulation on my Wii, guess what, its my White normal Wii that's fucking up, the one i bought used to use the SD card because i wanted to have an alternative and MAYBE fix the DSI crashing in some apps like WiiMC-SS and ancient emus not working, (the latter it turns out its due to Wii Motion Plus not being compatible), thats the one that was causing all the stutter, i dont know if its something internal on the wii, memory leak, firmware bullshit or whatever, but the fact that is, back on my Wii Mini, it runs without the hiccups, but somehow with only being able to load games with USB flashdrives and external HDDs, felt kinda anemic.
I am too dumb to learn to solder to install the SD card mod on the Wii mini, and last time i tried loading mGBA trough USB on the Wii Mini, i kept getting random pauses with note suatining on Wario Land 4, so i switch to my white wii for those.

Bug update:
Castlevania Chronicles has an issue when you play in Arrange Mode with the Arrange OST, right around the 2nd stage where it goes on the vertical raft section, the whole game goes mute, like it loses all sound!
The image is sharp and clear in 480p without bilinear filter, and a correct 4:3 aspect ratio on my screen.
And this is surely a placebo effect, but I find that with trap filter on, the image is even better (I use a component cable, so it shouldn't do anything).

There are patches especially for PAL games that gives you the option to change the region of game but for some reason does not detect the change . Anyway it's not something that matters much to me, I'm just commenting on it.
