It's just a bit more offensive than a middle finger for:
    • French
    • Italians
    • Spaniards
    • Argentines
    • Brazilians
    • Others

Pretty much unknown in the UK, got slapped in the face by French women once when I had my arms like that.

As you might imagine, I'm quite fond of it. It's one of my favourite ways of showing someone to "get f*cked" without actually being offensive. :tpi:

You know what? I was a pretty stupid teen, I'd want to slap myself.

Well he probably did it to offend a few of those people in the crowd, definitely a universal fuck you.

    Kind of realized that.
E.g.: this Argentine soldier was trying to send a message after losing the Malvinas/Falklands war, and the people from the BBC didn't even realize:

PS: non political post, just there for the amusement/LOLs.

It's not really an offensive gesture so much as it's a gesture of defiance in my culture. It can translate to many things depending on context, but the common denominator is basically "you're not getting anything from me, not even an inch", and yes, it's meant to be an aggressive dismissal or rejection. The context is simple - a Polish athlete in Moscow was meant to fail. "You're not getting that" was the response.

That gesture, which means strenght in Japan, means "up your ass" everywhere else in the world. Last time I checked, Splatoon was sold everywhere in the world.

Also it's not the first time. There were sprites in pokemon with the same gesture but were edited before localisation for the same reason.

In Brazil it "kinda still is" (with every passing year people will react less to it).

I think most of you don't understand how some people could see this as "offensive." In the US, the gesture used by the Inkling Girl could be seen as "Up Yours," which is short for "Shove it up your ass."
