That sucks. Good luck on that, I'll try to see what I can find... though I doubt I can find anything...

Yea it sucks but when you're making triple dig per hour to sit and do minimum effort I don't mind it.

As I mentioned if you have GW you can possibly make a legit cia or install multi-patch in GW system nand with 9.0 browser

The question though, is whether the 9.0 browser would work on 8.1J.

It will on GW system nand and then grant multi patch eshop access. In theory if on 8.1 GW system nand it should work just as I mentioned in the OP
I remember something from somewhere, can't remember where, about some problems if one were to try accessing content received from the eshop. i mean, I can try, but do you have any idea how I should go about settling the browser?

Don't really need the link to the download, but more of what I should do.

Grab the browser from the 9.0 update and install it to 8.1 sys nand. Once in you should be able to boot the web from GW sys nand mode and access eshop using multi patcher. From here you should be able to download right to sys nand as a legit cia.

....just asking, but...I thought multipatcher was a cia?
Why would the browser be needed?
I'm confused...

Also, wouldn't installing title apps through the GW sysnand mode cause problems?
AFAIK, wouldn't it make it very likely for the system to brick?

I have a 8.1j japan n3ds but really there is no reason to update to 9.0 or 9.2. If you have emunand like i do you can run cubic ninja 2.0 from there. I have a .cia copy of the game installed than i just boot into gateway mode from Oot then click on cubic ninja and i can play portal3ds which is very challenging. I have noticed that if you run Mgba as a .cia it runs really slow but as .3dsx its almost perfect playing warioland 4 which is my favorite gba game.

I think trying to update the system to a higher version is risky and unnecessary unless your just trying to load cubic ninja, ironhax, tubehax then yeah your going to have to update to a higher version. But since this a beta having a nand mod and backup would be a good idea. I must have 20 backups of my 9.5 emunand and 8 or so of my 8.1 system nand.

What about people who don't want to use GW and want to choose a CFW? They can't in that specific firmware version. You need to think outside the box.

I think you need to re-read my statement
I think you need to re-write your statement.

Because half of it is confusing, irrelevant rambling about your favourite homebrew and GBA games. I've read it twice and I'm still having trouble getting my head around it.

This is a solution for those who can't, or don't want to, buy a Gateway. So that they can update their system to a firmware that will allow them to run Ninjhax, and therefore boot into a CFW of their choosing.

@andre104623 - yes, you mentioned "unless you're trying to load cubic ninja etc etc...", so you acknowledge that some people need a higher version, BUT your reply still doesn't make sense in the context of this thread, because this thread isn't about playing warioland 4, and it's not about portal3ds.. it's DEFINITELY not about whether portal3ds is challenging or not, either. This thread is directed at people who are stuck on 8.1.0 J, and want to get to 9.0-9.2. So, in this context, EVERYONE needs a higher system version. I'm certainly glad to know you have 20 backups of 9.5 emunand and 8 or so of 8.1 sysNAND.

I think you need to re-write your statement.

What he said :teach:

well, with one exception: I have a gateway, but I really want to be able to have my japanese N3DS set up in exactly the same way (in terms of cfw, homebrew, reinand, etc) as my USA N3DSXL, which requires 9.0.0-9.2.0. People with a gateway may not want to use gateway to access emunand, for various reasons (my reason is my kid uses the gateway cart more than i do, so i need/want reiNAND)

I won't be home for quite a few hours; someone ran a truck though a telco pole and hit our 500ct fiber line...... FML..... 1,000 fiber splices usually takes me 10+ hrs.....
wow.. is that single-mode fiber? man.. triple digit per hour.. :P I do fiber installs sometimes at work and freelance (multimode though) but because my employer is a school, and a nonprofit, i am severely underpaid.. lol. sorry for the off-topic..

On-topic: i PM'd you a while ago about testing.. let me know what to do (what app, procedure, etc.) thanks! and i have a gateway too, if that helps (and sky3ds, and an old r4i 3ds deluxe.. yuck)

Interestingly enough, I have the same issue. Not exactly sure what causes it.
I'm sure it's because ntr as well as a lot of other things break with the 10.1 update, I simple payload update will fix them ^_^

.....you DO know that we're using N3DS...right?
And that our N3DS emunands operate on 9.5 and under, right?

And just incase I misunderstood your statement, what is this payload statement you speak of?

Sorry guys had an emergency 20 hr shift at work. Before you think I am some Dr saving lives I am more important.... I am a fiber splicer who keeps your internet on

I am planning on taking my computer and the rest of the family to red lobster where I plan to test for hours while eating endless shrimp. I will hopefully come back with a new solution tonight in regards to a legit cia

Lol, it's alright, we've waited this long already.
Enjoy your break time and eat loads of shrimp, though I have no idea how one can eat all that shrimp without some sort of staple food to down it, but meh.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
