My Xbox doesn't seems to like HDMI cables anymore. It used to play just fine with HDMI. Now when I try to use an HDMI cable, I get this:

That's the dashboard. I've tried navigating to the display settings and changing them but no matter what setting I choose I still get a scrambled image. It still works just fine with the composite AV cable. It's a zephyr Xbox (white disc tray instead of silver) so I don't think it's an over heating issue. I haven't even used it much lately. I'm hoping it's just a handshake issue that can be fixed. I tried on a different TV to no avail as well as with a different cable.

Help please?

Yep.

You could try and reflow the HANA chip and stick a small heatsink on it (if it works again)

But I don't think it'll work for long.

New 360 (or second hand Jasper from late 09 begin 2010) is the best option.
Since you got a Zephyr and those are known to RRoD.

I was wrong, it's actually a Falcon Xbox and not a Zephyr. Guess it doesn't matter now though lol.

It's still under warranty for E74 so I'm gonna send it in to get it fixed. Maybe if I get a job this summer and I have some money to throw around I'll sell this old model and buy a newer one.

They replaced under warranty old Xboxes with Xenon/Zephyr 360's back in 05/06.

So it's likely that if you send a under warranty Phatty that they'll replace it with a Slim.

Motherboard related is likely.
They can't simply replace a part on a Mobo ;p

DVD related probably not.
They swap out the DVD drive and send it back is what I think.

They did replace the non compatible XGD3 360's (with the 13xxx update) with Slims.

I say just go for it and try.
You'll never know ;]
Oh!
Take your harddrive off and KEEP IT AT HOME!
You can unscrew the HDD enclosure and fit it in the Slim if they send a 4GB version.

Then you should have no trouble sending it ;p

I'd say take the risk and post the results.
I'm also quite interested in what MS does to your console.

If it's still under warranty then they'd likely replace it with a 360 Slim.
I say go for it.
my cousin just sent his phat in a few months ago and they sent a phat one back again

afaik they arnt replacing them with slims back unless you sent a slim in

but send it in anyway, might get one now

I haven't been gaming for such a long time. Been mostly busy with sleep, hardware tinkering and checking GBAtemp frequently.

Hope you've had a good morning.

It's going alright thanks :) I know what you mean with gaming time. It's precious where I can get it these days.

That must be rough. Productive I'm sure but hard to balance with daily life

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
