im sorry for being lazy...i just thought i'd ask something
here instead of reading through all the guides...
my question is: if i buy the cheapest version of xbox 360 (arcade i think) with 4gb
can i hack it myself (software hack)?
and can i then use an external flash drive for loading the ROMs?
thanks..........

Simply put no there is no software hack for the 360 only hardmodded and if you are to lazy to read guides then don't bother hacking your 360 because u will have to read if you plan on doing it yourself. Also I think all new 360s have the corona drive which means u will have to RGH just to get our key.

There are no "ROMS" for the 360.

Never the less, no.
You'll need to hardware hack it and that doesn't really come cheap tho.
It involves soldering on tiny spots.

If I where you I'd take it to a local modshop and let it get hacked.

Current gen console.
Would make sense cause it's still in use.

PS2 can be hacked with software and the PS1 is just a cheap drive chip and you can boot backups.

However, you can flash the drive yourself or get an ODDE (preffered ODDE cause it uses an external HDD for game loading)
However a new Slim 360 needs to be RGH'd for the DVD key (if you want an ODDE)
I'd say get a second hand Phatty box, these are easy to flash/obtain drive keys from.
