Gaming Would you guys recommend this pc for gaming?

You guys didn't check the unlocking results on the new Phenom II 555 seems pretty sweet some people report that the C3 edition is really great (as opposed to the C2 550).

I would check to see what 5770 costs as opposed to the 4850 gaming wise might be better.

That's stupid.

Upgrading later will require you to buy both the video card and a new PSU, whereas what I showed you'd get it all for the same price.

athlon II's have no L3 cache. Its literally removed. no where near as good for gaming.

Despite the X2 550 being clocked at over 500Mhz higher, the X4 620 still performed just as good or just slightly below. If you overclock it, it'll easily be better than the x2 550.

The missing L3 cache isn't anything major.

except missing the l3 cache is something major. its the reason why phenom II thrash the athlon II's, its generally around 10-20% better performance clock for clock/core for core. Unless you get your hands on the early x4 620's, its nowhere near the value for money as a x2 550. the early x4 620's were actually unlockable to full Phenom II x4's, these propus cores 620's at most overclock to 3.3-3.4, the pre-propus models could go up to around 3.8. while people are running x2 550's at 3.8, all cores unlocked using the stock cooler (load temp somewhere in the 60's). The furthest i've seen someone running a 550 is around 4.1

The Athlon II X4 620 and Phenom II X2 550 make up for another interesting comparison. Both processors cost $100 despite being quite different, but overclockers are likely better off with the quad-core Athlon II X4 620, as it will deliver more performance on a clock for clock basis.


If you're overclocking, Athlon II X4 620 > Phenom II X2 550. If not, then Phenom II X2 550 > Athlon II X4 620, IMO.

yeah you might be able to get nearly a 1ghz(600-800mhz realistically) increase, which will probably beat a 550 at stock speeds. but after unlocking the extra cores of the 550 and further overclocking, there's no way an overclocked 620 will be able to hold its own. 2 extra cores + easy 700mhz > nearly 1ghz increase.

not to mention the new C3 stepping 550's are practically guaranteed unlocks.
